Awesome to hear. I picked up free 4 day defensive handgun passes last year when they did their website linking special. Going to take my father out with me, but I need to buy him a handgun first. He borrows all of mine.
I really want to build two 1911s, one for each of us. Just have them done in differing colors. Then I will take my HKs as back ups just in case. Good to know to head out in the early part of the year. I never really took into consideration the fact that it will be over 100 degrees come summer.

I was told to use what you carry. So if you carry a compact take that.

I would recommend a semi-auto. The people that had wheel guns had a disadvantage during reloads (which you will do a lot of....!).

Let me start by saying a few things:
I have never attended any professional shooting school, although I am a frequent reader of shooting techniques. I have attended in-house law enforcement shooting schools. My comments, imbued with a healthy dose of opinion, imbedded and in bold... Quote:

Ya Paramedic ... everything you noted I also believed. Till I learned. You go ahead and shoot fast, keep squeezing till they drop. Heck shoot like a LEO with LEO training, I know I did, I was an instructor. I learned a different and in my humble opinion a better way of surviving a gunfight. Bottom line kill him first and kill him fast, because he WILL BE TRYING TO KILL YOU. But try it your way, tell me how that works out. Not defending myself, or my review, but knowing what I know now I think I was training officers in outdated and less than "the absolute best" technique's for surviving a gunfight. But that was old FBI standards. I have no idea what they are doing now. Just wish I knew then what I am aware of now. 15 - 20 year old training was not doing it for me this month. As for 9mm.. personal preferance, not mine anymore. As far as the clock and competition. Time is life, If you cannot beat the clock and the BG can ... yer dead and you do not go home that day. But I still won't sell my 9mm SIG. Too purty. O' and get formal training outside your department. Your life and the life of your partner depend on it, and not everything you read works in real life. I got a bullet in my leg to prove that one.

It's your choice if you want to receive other types of training or not. No shame in that. Whatever they taught that I didn't like, I didn't stick with it. My advice is to try it out and go with an open mind. Doesn't hurt to do that. |
