I don't know how it was done years ago, but for the last two years I can verify that a FL CWP has not substituted for a NICS check. The benefit of a CWP is that the holder is exempted from the 3 day waiting period. My most recent gun purchases required completion of the ATF Form 4473, and a successful NICS check.

You are very correct. The Florida CWP does not means you are exempt, just dont have to wait for a hand gun.

I did not kow if the FL CPW would suffice for the NICS check or not and is why I was asking. In SC it will so all I have to do is show that and no NCIS check or worry etc. I have never had any problem with it but some dealers are more willing to haggle if you have one because they know that 1) if you decide to buy there is no worry about approval, 2) you are probably more knowledgeable and interested than someone walking in off the street just looking.

I'll be heading down next week to get my prints taken for the non resident.
It's a shame they have to make it such a pain in the ass in NC and require crap from my chain of command. Oh well! |
