GCO: Atlanta plans to announce the arresting of any carry within the law tomorrow

from georgiacarry.org

There must be something in the water in Atlanta!

Atlanta published a press release today stating in large letters:

Atlanta Mayor, Airport GM Declare Airport a Gun-Free Zone

The press conference is tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. in the clock tower atrium, but suffice it to say that the Mayor cannot simply "declare" any place to be "a Gun-Free Zone." State law expressly forbids municipalities from regulating the carry and possession of firearms "in any manner." GCO has already stated publicly that it intends to file a lawsuit tomorrow. GCO will not stand idly by while Atlanta violates state law. GCO just finished defeating Atlanta last month on a preemption lawsuit over another Atlanta "Gun-Free Zone." Apparently, Atlanta intends to violate state law yet again!

UPDATE: Rep. Tim Bearden (the author of HB 89) has been threatened with arrest if he comes on airport property with a firearm (he has actual business there tomorrow). Criminal defense attorney and GCO Member Doug King is standing by.

I love it when people are ready to stand up for their rights and have a lawyer standing by to back them up and I'm sure if he's arrested will get highly publicised

And maybe this one too will get to the SC to finally test the "bear" part of "to keep and bear" arms.

(The arrogance and stupidity of grandstanding politicians (no matter the issue) is boundless.)

Agreed. I actually wonder if that is where they got the idea.

On the upside, it looks like there is now some prodding of the AG to say if state law preempts (and ironically, WA state law has specific verbiage stating it preempts city and county law in this matter).

These are the things we need to do now in as many places as possible. Have our suit ready to file. We can bankrupt the antis with legal action all over this nation.

Elaborate.

Whats gutsy? The mayor getting stupid or the Rep challenging him?
