Like Butch and others here, I do a complete self-check before going out the door. I have left my XD at home before while trying to rush out. I did it twice and have since done the all important self-check everytime I go out the door.
I haven't forgotten it since. Glad it worked out ok though. None of us are perfect and it happens to just about all of us.

What kind of holster? I was told not to leave a gun in a leather holster because leather needs to "breathe". I think that is what I was told. Don't keep a gun in it constantly and don't leave it on a belt with no gun in it.

I agree on the being on a belt empty, maybe because I use an IWB.

You're a lucky guy...lesson learned...without any harm. I doubt that you'll ever forget your sidearm again...ever!
Stay armed...make sure...stay safe!

I didn't read all the posts in detail but I didn't see the ones telling you how much of an idiot you are for making such a dumb mistake and it could never happen to them. You know, like some people do when someone reports dropping a gun or having an AD.
So, you idiot, if you aren't always aware of your gun then you shouldn't be trusted to carry one and give the rest of us careful people a bad name. Just go to the nearest pawn shop, sell you guns and go buy a pink dress and a dunce cap. No trained gun person would ever leave home without triple checking to see if they had their gun and extra magazines. ![]() |

well, I certainly won't flame you!!! I just posted the other day how a J frame slipped out of my pocket into a friends couch. I only noticed it when I stood to leave and for some reason I looked down and there it was, barrel up pointing at me from between the cushions! It makes you feel like an idiot and it SHOULD scare us/unnerve us. Was the gun loaded on the nightstand? Do you have Children?
For me that would have been every bit as disasterous!!! ![]() Good thing to think about the lessons these events teach!

What happened? I couldn't get past the thought of commuting 90 minutes with my wife.

And just think, now you don't have to sue the holster maker like the guy suing Glock after he left it in his truck and his son shot him with it!
Not to make light of the situation, just pointing out personal responsibility.... Which you showed a lot of integrity and personal responsibility by walking into that grocery store and letting the managers know what happened! Probably the hardest thing you've ever had to do! Good for you! And once again, I am so thankful everything worked out for you!
