When I first read the OP's tale I, too, immediately thought of the policeman who did virtually the same thing and his toddler shot him. While eveyone jumped all over the first guy, I see nothing but empathy for LongRider. The ONLY difference is that the LA cop was unlucky to go along with his lapse of judgement and that the LA cop was probably not a member here.

I am very glad that things worked out in the end and no one was ever in danger. Again, as I wrote in response to the other thread, it CAN happen to any of us if we are not meticulous in handling our firearms. And even then...

Hopefully, the responses to incidents like this will be somewhat tempered in the future.

Don't beat yourself up over it. Been there, done that (I mean, left my sidearm at home). Even though I knew for sure where it was, I felt stupid and... naked.

I've done the same thing ! I now have a system with all my stuff that I am going to carry is on the bar every night. No small kids home. It's a scary experience that hits home the responsibility of carrying a loaded firearm.
In my case, like you, I hadn't even put pistol on my hip but some where in my mind I was so sure I had.

Oh man LongRider... that really had to suck! Though I haven't yet, I know I could do that too. Some days are just way to darn hectic!

I try to put all my STUFF in one place ( wallet, keys, surefire, knife and gun/holster) and do a brief check and pat down before leaving the house. This way I avoid seraching for my STUFF and usually remember to take everything. My gun stays in the holster, when I take it off the belt, as another earlier post. Can't leave with an empty holster, but I've left both gun and holster behind a few times. It happens.

i had to make a checksheet for stuff. Im kind of brain dead in the morning so it helps. Normally when you have a coronary about something, its always on the kitchen counter. Glad it turned out the way it did, because you live and learn. And, I bet you dont do that again.

Look on the bright side.
That's one little boo boo you'll never make ever again.

Glad it all worked out. While reading your story, I could just feel the sick feeling in my stomach. It had to take alot of nerve to ask about it in the grocery store.
My first thought in reading your post was, You have a good quality holster, how likely would it be that the gun could even slip out of it? Especially being IWB. Not saying it could not happen, but just seems unlikely.
I need to do the check list thing. I've forgot my cell phone few times, but not my gun "yet". Thanks for the post. That took some nerve too.
