You still won't be able to if your avatar is up to date (MS resident) - Unless you're a FL resident, you won't be legal to carry in SC on a FL permit.

Was there an ETA on when this is going into effect? I'm going to Hilton Head in mid- to late-August.

In speaking with the Florida DoACS Division of Licensing, I am under the impression that South Carolina, as in the past, is stalling and trying to find a way out of the reciprocity agreement. SLED fought it based on minor technicalities before, and I can easily see why how they could try that again now. There are differences in the requirements between the two states.

Earlier in this thread, someone mentioned that SLED is "working as we speak" on the Florida reciprocity issue. I hope that's true, because on this end, my contact at the FL Division of Licensing (the individual who is also in charge of brokering the deal) says he is waiting for a call from SLED... and pretty much has been for a month now.

Any South Carolinians wanna call up Captain Weir of SLED's Regulatory Services Office? Apparently he's the guy to ask.

I am a Florida resident, born and raised. I'm active duty military stationed in MS...have had a FL permit since I turned 21.

You are correct though, if I had a nonresident permit I would not be able to carry in SC.

I, too, mentioned an upcoming trip to Hilton Head when I spoke to the captain in charge of promulgating the new reciprocity list, but I could NOT pen him down to any definite time frame for its implementation. I came away considering myself lucky that I, at least, had confirmed that Kentucky was going to be on that list this time.

I can't help but believe that there are those in SLED who are like stubborn children. They really slow down, just to show you they can, when you try to get them to hurry up so the family can get somewhere on time!

I guess that will leave Pa out since you don't have to have the training class even though you still have to have the back ground check.

Now you see why most of us were not in favor of the version of the law that passed. They simply can do what they always did. Only this time they do not have to reach an agreement. They can make a judgement on the "Similar" criteria. Only they now can still use the excuse that the criteria is different and they have no time table by which they have to make this "determination.

The version most of us preferred, which SLED was able to defeat, made Reciprocity automatic if they recognized ours.

There really is no significant difference between this new law and the old law unless SLED wishes to take the intent of the law to heart. Nothing I have seen so far indicates they do.

Worse, it annoying leaves out PA residents who have the FLA non-res permit, which does require the training.

SC doesn't even have a non resident, do they. I didn't see any provisions for one on SLED. I could have overlooked it though.
