I still think that if someone from VA were to get arrested they could beat it in court since the way the law is written it says that we have reciprocity with VA whether SLED says so or not. I will donate $10 to the defense fund. ![]() |

I survive my trips through SC on my way to VA or FL. I fill up with gas and pay at the pump. Defense is only an arms length away...
Doesn't mean I don't hope they get FL approved ASAP. When they do I may just stop and get something to eat or even stay over night. |

I'm sure reciprocity will happen soon. Looking forward to having the entire south east become CWP friendly.
BTW, if I want to take it to my hotel room legally, I need to unload it before walking around with it in a case. |

No you don't in SC, it is specifically mentioned in the law that you can transport it too and from the room and no mention of unloading it or even casing it. However I would indeed conceal it so as to not attract attention would be my advice. But your Hotel room is considered your home if you have paid for it. Here is the citations that apply: SECTION 16-23-20. (15) a person while transferring a handgun directly from or to a vehicle and a location specified in this section where one may legally possess the handgun. SECTION 23-31-230. Carrying concealed weapons between automobile and accommodation. Notwithstanding any provision of law, any person may carry a concealable weapon from an automobile or other motorized conveyance to a room or other accommodation he has rented and upon which an accommodations tax has been paid. There is no requirement to case them nor to unload them. However, it might be wise to conceal them to some extent. They scare people... The entire SE will not be included in the mix. For one, Georgia cannot be included under the current version because their requirements differ enough from ours to be not eligible. They do not require training. And the version of the Reciprocity law that passed requires that they be similar to ours in order to qualify. And SLED gets to determine that fact.

Georgia falls into the same category as Pennsylvania and a few other states which do not require training. It is a good thing, because requiring someone who is intimately familiar with firearms safety to pay for and take a training course is plain stupid. On the other hand, these states get screwed when it comes to reciprocity, because most other states require training.
It is a tough situation, because you do not want to add a training req. in those states just to get reciprocity, but the other states aren't going to drop that requirement. I think its safe to say our best avenue for more universal CCW reciprocity is to push states to pass a law automatically recognizing the license from any state which recognizes theirs. Sure, there's the idea of a national reciprocity bill, but I think that stands little chance of passing any time soon. Doing what I suggest at the state level will sync up and simplify rules regarding who may carry a concealed weapon in all of the "pro-gun" states, without all the unneeded bureaucracy. |
