First real day as a CHL holder
OK, I finally got my card last Saturday and intended on taking the kids out to the store to do my modified Wally Walk (We won't go in to why it wasn't going to be at Wally World), but they messed up and there was no way I was taking them out in public; especially since I would be strapped.
I went to church yesterday with my pistol, but with Sunday School and worship service that is only about a 4 hour round trip with a lot of time just sitting in a pew or the car. Today I am carrying for the first time at work and I have to tell you it is just silly. I knew from reading about others experiences in public while carrying, so I guess I was already set for the not knowing what was going on. I have not once felt like people are starring at me, guess I practiced a lot at home, the kids have no clue and they climb all over me and wrestle with me, with the spontaneous sneak up behind Dad and jump on his back, not made once by the kids.Well I just got back from a long, while standing, discussion with many people in the Exec are of our office, NOTHING! I know our VP of HR would have said something, I have known her for going on 7 years and she is never afraid to mention anything to me. I was surrounded by people, and I was turning and twisting during many conversations at this time. It is truly amazing, cause I know most of them would have freaked if they knew a loaded firearm was inches away from them. I am not really worried about my concealment as I found the sweet spot of my body and SuperTuck and I am confident that it can't be seen, except for a full bend at the waist, to say tie my shoes or something. Just thought I would share and since my day is not over I'm sure I have evoked the wrath of Murphy so I will stay in my server room the rest of the day, just to be safe.

Congrats.
The first thing that jumped out at me was wow, 637 posts on this forum from someone who doesn't have his license(and presumably doesn't carry), then I checked your profile to find out you've been a member for 4 months...then I was like wow 637 in 4 months. Great you've been here taking this seriously and learning all you can. It's amazing that people have no clue. I think it every day when I'm packin and nobody knows :) It's kinda cool. If your company did find out, I suspect your employment would be terminated?

Congrats on your first day of successful carry. It looks like your time spent on this forum has payed off with you having the right rig and not touching or adjusting the gun in public. That's usually all it takes to carry successfully.

Glad to hear your having a great time carrying, and that you already feel very conferrable. But, I was wondering about company policy. Before you let anyone know, make sure you check your company policy.
I'm self employed now, so it's no longer a concern, but back in the 80's when I worked for a fortune 500 company it was an immediate termination, if you where caught carrying on the job. |

I double checked the most recent copy of our company policy, not a word about it
. Also the 3 buildings I go to the most have no signs of any sort. With that said, I live in TX and they can let anyone go at any time for now reason; right to work state. But with THAT said, I feel that the VP of HR would simply talk to me (Momma complex) as she has over the past 8 years I have known her. My Boss knows I have my CHL, he is more of a bud than a boss since we have worked together over several different companies since 1999, and I think he would stick up for me and push for some reprimand instead of termination IF that ever happened. Since I am going to be in the CEO's office in a little bit working on his laptop I have decided to put it in the car for now, since I don't know how he would take it if he noticed. I have very marketable skills, but don't want to have to test it again after the fun of the Telecom bust in 2003 in Richardson/Plano (those of you in N. TX know what I am talking about).

.I did have a concern about how people would feel about it if they found out, I know there area few friendlies around here. Also over the years I have been asked to assist in escorting certain HR personnel around wen layoffs were going on, not this company but at another with our current VP of HR, and I know she trusts me and has even had to lay me off (Telecom bust of 2003) and knows I am not a hothead or dangerous (at least to the friendlies). But I don't know how she would take a pistol, she knows I carry knives. But since I am in an area of Plano that can be dangerous, as dangerous as Plano Texas gets , I would still rather be prepared.

Yeah, its funny. You read and think people are going to be looking at you (or at least think you will be nervous) and for the most part, they can't see a thing. The other day, I went to Walmart to buy groceries (sorry, on occasion, I go there for things other than ammo). I did stop and get ammo (this is the first Walmart I ever went in where the handgun ammo is ON THE SHELF, and you don't have to pay for it in Sporting Goods). I get to the checkout, and the lady looks at the ammo, then looks at me (I am a female). She said "is this for a handgun?" I say yes, as I pull out my ID, then she goes "wow, you carry a gun?" I just smile, as it is none of her business. She then says "is it supposed to be a secret?" I said "no," then she asked, "do you have it now" and I smiled again. Obviously, even when looking, she could not tell I had my XD-9 (full size) in a MTAC. Admittedly, even the people who now know I carry (only a select few friends) could not tell I was, but it is interesting that no one ever suspects a woman to be carrying.
