Congrats!!!

You will find that with a good Holster and Belt, along with "Dressing around the gun" you can hide a fairly substantial size weapon. I'm 5'06" and 140# and I manage to hide the following at one time:

3" Ruger GP100
2 1/4" SP101
442

OR:

5" 1911
2 1/4" SP101
442

OR:

Glock 19
2 1/4" SP101
442

No, I don't wear a Trench Coat. I favor Cargo Shorts and Hawaiian Shirts. Welcome to the world of concealed carry.

Before you know it you will feel naked without at least two guns and reloads on you at all times. I know after 12 years I do!!

But I am 5' 11" and fat and I can carry an XD 9 service in my UBG IWB and conceal it well under a pullover shirt.

Yes with certain moves it makes a small bulge but not bad at all. I carry it as often as my PM 9. Under a Hawaiian shirt, it's usually the XD 9.

Welcome to the carry community!

Once you get the hang of it you'll be able to hide a full-size pistol with comfort. I carry a SIG P229 daily--I select and try on my clothing to make sure the cut is right and have gotten used to the weight thanks to a good belt (Liger) and holster (Milt Sparks Versa Max).

I recently started open carrying just around my own neighborhood (because I'm always armed at home, and don't want to disarm to get the mail or walk the dog). I don't have a ccw (YET!!!) so open-carry is the only legal way to carry for now. I don't feel like being 'made' by a patrolling officer... I've stood and had long conversations with neighbors and they've not looked down to my hips at all. and if they did they probably just saw "really big cell phone" and thought no more. I carry a big black fabric cheap-o holster with spare mag pouch sewed onto the slide-side of the holster. I'm waiting on my 'real' holster which won't be ready or shipped till December. I carry it crossdraw, right up front to the left (my left) of the belt buckle. Since it's a cheap-o holster it flaps around a lot on the 3-4:00 position, but up front it sits nicely. I could have sworn this would make it more noticeable, and I don't doubt it does, but still no one notices! I've visited my dad's house, parked then loaded and armed myself at his driveway before knocking at his door. I was there at least half an hour before we got called away (then had to disarm, unload mags and lock up before driving off...). Later that night I asked him "did you notice I was open carrying when I visited today?" he had no idea, and was blown away when I told him it was right in front of him! My wife was with me, she was taking care of the baby while I'd been loading and arming myself (I've got this down to about 2 minute's prep for 3 mags, from ammo box with no speed-loader), and she'd even not noticed I'd been armed. These are two people who not only know I own a gun, but also know I carry whenever I can, and they didn't notice. Sometimes I think I'd have to have the gun holstered to a hat for some people to notice, but I would hate to get cocky... you start to make mistakes when you get too comfortable.

Major you'll get used to it. At first you'll seem very conspicous. After a while you will realize it is easier than you think, I have carried for several years and as far as I know I have never been "made". I carry a Kahr P9 most everywhere. If it's not that then it is my Seecamp LWS .32 and no one ever sees that one in a good pocket holster. Use discession and you'll be fine.

Howdy Major and thanks for your sevice to our nation.

You will be surprised at the size of firearm you can conceal.
Just a month ago, I got a IWB holster from Coal Creek Armory made by Brommeland and it conceals a full sized Springfield Armory 1911 quite easily.
If I'm lying, I'm dying....
Yes, full size 1911 on your person. A great weapon.
