My Colorado permit says Concealed Weapons Permit. However, it is only good for handguns.

I always heard "driving is a priviledge, not a right".
Yet they issue a "license" for it.
I guess it all comes down to semantics.
At least in my 2d amendment mind, I feel it's a "right" to carry.
I guess it's all open for debate...........

I don't see much of a difference in either license or permit. If you want something different...don't require either.

license and permit are synonyms. "License" comes from a Latin word meaning 'what once was illegal now is permitted.'

Semantics.

If not having approval risks your being seen differently as compared to carrying while having one, then (no matter what you choose to call it) it's a permitting process. Carrying "by your leave" is just that. Rights? Right ... only so long as permitted/licensed/approved by the good graces of the legislative weenies.

Oregon: Concealed Handgun License.

Permit, License.... same thing to me. Still having to ask permission to exercise your right.

We could agree on the right, but it is not a matter of what either of us believes about it. The fact is that in the vast majority of states it is illegal to carry concealed without permission. That permission is granted by a license. Whether it is called a license or a permit, you must have it to be legal.
Accordingly, I see no difference it what it is called.

The state gives permission in the form of a permit or license. It evidently is not a legal right, as ruled by the courts, without that permission/permit.

Regards,
Jerry
