Good for you, hope you get out of there soon, surely not a place I would want to be either.

Thanks for all of the congrats guys! I feel better when I have the means to defend myself and I've felt a bit naked over the last two years. To get a carry permit here isn't all that "hard" per se but you need 3 notarized references from your previous state as well as 4 references from your county...it took me a while to meet the 4 local references so I didn't get my permit in until mid December...8 months later and I have a full NY carry permit. Thankfully not many places are off limits here...think I'll get my MA permit now just so that I can drive from NY to ME while carrying

so what did you have to tell the people's republic of NY to get a carry permit?

I thought no one other than PI or security could get one.
Not the case in upstate NY fortunately...here you only have to sell a kidney or two to get one

I have 383 days left...yep, I dislike it here so much that I have a counter on my computer that I can see everyday when I start it up

I'm "down" near Albany...there are quite a few of us "unrestricted"permit holders around here.Depends on your county, but don't tell anyone we are actually carrying. it would scare the sheep, and all they NYC transplants.

Congrats on the permit again.
For all NY's bad rep on guns, once you get a permit here, at least it's good for life, and very few restrictions on where we can't carry. Not to say NYS is gun friendly at all, but it's not all bad.

If you are upstate and have a lifetime permit realize it is only lifetime for a NY resident. As soon as you leave it is no longer valid since to possess a permit in NY you must be a resident or have a business there.
