To the OP:

There are instructors in the Portland and Salem areas that conduct courses that meet both the Oregon and Utah training requirements. The Utah permit is a good deal if you travel much -- I'm still waiting for mine to arrive.

Do yourself a favor and drive north to Washington and apply for a permit there. My state treats all comers like residents, and you will be issued a permit without problem.

You have to be careful when traveling as some states do not accept non resident licenses, such as kansas and colorado,I can carry with a Texas CHL in Kansas but if somebody has a non resident Texas CHL kansas won't recognize it,I believe that is for all non resident permits,so know the laws of states you are traveling to/thru or you could end up breaking the law

I know, KS is one state that only takes resident licenses, but I'm good then. Just not when I get north of KS.

Then it was just as if we were at home.

In just a few years when I'm able to retire as my wife just has done, hopefully we'll move to North Carolina and build our dream home. Then I'll have to leave the paradise of the GUN-SHINE state and live under some harsher restrictions that I hope and pray the great state of NC addresses before I get there! Like I can't see going to the movies and having to leave my gun in the trunk. I figure the most dangerous spot is the parking lot to and from the movie! But NC says, no guns in the movie theaters which really stinks. I'm certain there are other rules, too. Maybe y'all folks from NC can elucidate?
Yes, we have some stupid CC laws here. However there are bills in place to remove several of the limtations and to bring in Castle Doctrine, we ran out of time in 2007 and are shooting for it again on 2009, so we need everyones help. Please joing Grass Roots of NC. nobody is doing more for our gun rights than they are. They will send you alerts with email links for critical votes that are taking place. It is amazing to see a politician change his or her vote when they receive a few thousand emails each day. If you care about NC join and participate. That politician doesn't know you aren't from NC.
If one doesn't help to change the laws they have no right to sit and whine about them!! Not adressing that towards you just folks in general.
