THis brings up an interesting(to me at least). What about someone who lives in Bristol VA/TN. Since the state line passes through the town of Bristol, would it be against Va law for someone living in the TN part of the town to carry his concealed handgun if he went shopping on the VA side. This may not be true, because I have only been to Bristol one time in my life, but around here, we have always been told that the state line passes right down the middle of one street. Thus one side of the street is TN, and the other side Va. If this is true, a Tn resident could violate Virginia CC law by just crossing that street

Here's a link to the Tennessee site.
Department of Safety Internet - Handgun Reciprocity Information

Virginia is listed under;
Quote:
STATES WITHOUT RECIPROCITY AGREEMENTS THAT DO RECOGNIZE TENNESSEE HANDGUN CARRY PERMITS
Which is correct??

I guess I have until 2011 for them to work it out.
If your VA CHP is a Resident permit you might want to make sure it is still valid if you are no longer a resident.

Thats sucks. Hope they work it out.

Good thing Is NC has Reciprocity with just about everybody. NC permits can travel every southern state. Many midwest states and even a few Yankee states.

Hope the dont start taking out states away also.

There is a difference between reciprocity and simply recognizing another state's permit/license. This may be just that sort of technical distinction on VA's part - let's see how VSP responds to those who've emailed them.

If true, many other states' non-res permits are recognized in VA - UT and FL definitely, but also PA (go to the Centre County Sheriff), NH, and probably others. Yes, it's a hassle and more expensive, but at least it's still an option for VA (unlike MD, NJ, NY, etc...)

The state line is the state line, rather it runs down the middle of a street, through a house and through a open field, a line is a line. On one side you are legal and the other you aren't, period!! My property line is less than 100 yards from the VA line, so I am very thankful VA recognizes NC's permit.

Just my guess, but I think one reason Missouri has so many states that recognize our CCW (35) is that our minimum age for ccw is 23. Even FL only has 33 states that recognizes their permit.

We have the mandatory range time, classroom time, background check including fingerprints... But I noticed that the minimum age of 23 is different than most other states.

Missouri is also one of the states that recognizes ccw from any other state including non-resident permits. Too bad we don't issue a non-resident permit.

So my only guess would be that TN is less restrictive in issuing than VA likes.

Tennessee and Missouri tie for having the second most recognized permit, next to Michigan. We must be doing something right. I'm hoping this deal with Virginia is just a technicality in terms, and she actually recognizes Tennessee's permit.

I'm anxious to see what the VSP has to say.
