Are the people on the 1st floor wearing Kevlar helmets?
Put another way: do you walk on concrete surfaces? In that case, assuming IWB/OWB carried vertically, then you are always pointing the (ricocheting) bullet at yourself. Some things just can't be avoided. Holstered, it shouldn't be an issue.

With a proper holster that covers the trigger guard completely, it's really a non issue.

With a shoulder holster as long as the gun stays in the holster, it's a non issue, but when reholstering, your muzzle may become an issue when people are standing behind you.

With a belt holster, same thing except that the muzzle is pointed at you or the ground when reholstering.

Same thing with pocket holster, as long as you don't try to reholster while sitting behind someone. (Typically I pull the holster out of my pocket to reholster so I ensure I don't snag the trigger on anything in the pocket and ensure the muzzle is pointed in a safe direction when putting it back in the holster.)

Always know your backstop and keep your ccw in a proper fitting holster that covers the trigger guard!

Do you exercise good muzzle control when carrying?
I carry in a level II retention holster, OWB.

So, I would say yes I do.

Especially when there are children involved we naturally (as the most responsible sort of human beings that we are) tend to sometimes be excessively cautious and no matter if our concerns are 100% rationally based or not.

I see nothing wrong with that.
It's a normal human maternal/paternal instinct to go above and beyond ordinary measures to protect ones still helpless offspring.
I saw it all the time in the animal world and we are basically "human animals" with the identical instinctive behavior that has been ingrained into us since our creation.
It's an integral part of the self preservation of our species.

I believe the only guns that go off all by themselves are the scary black rifles. All kidding aside, I do not worry about a properly holstered gun pointing at me or someone else.

Would the "No's" just raise their hands?

(Either in a holster or in the safe.)

+10 I agree 100% in a proper holster no problems. Outside of holster = always aware where muzzle is pointing.

Wow, just wow ... I guess by extension, when you put that firearm down and watch it to make sure it won't go off by itself it's still pointing at someone somewhere, right?

Come on man, I hate being the one to say it, but I think you're going a little too far. I admire your ambition for safety at all times everywhere, but you've got to use a little common sense.

Not an issue as I see it. When carrying my gun is always in its holster, pointed at the ground. Don't make a habit of standing over someone laying on the floor!!
