South Dakota - Carry in State Parks?
I will be camping this weekend in the Sioux Falls, SD area. Does anyone know if South Dakota allows CCW in state parks? I am unable to find anything online.
I hold a Nebraska CCW permit, so I have been researching SD's laws before I go up there. No luck with the state park issues yet. Thanks! /rl |

Every year we camp west of Yankton SD at a state park. Last year was my first time camping there after I had my CCW permit. To be safe I called up to the park and talked to a park ranger, and was told I was just fine. We will be heading their next week-end and yes I will be carrying. S. Dakota has nice clean parks. Have a good trip.

Not a problem with CC in the SD state parks. I live near Sioux Falls, so welcome and enjoy your stay.

There are a lot of nice parks near Sioux Falls, I hope you enjoy your stay.
The parks have rules against uncased firearms, but South Dakota has statewide preemption, including state agencies. So while you can't whip out your M60, your concealed pistol should be fine. I wonder why they don't say that in the park regulations... ![]() I included the relevant text below, from South Dakota Codified Law 1-26-6.10 1-26-6.10. Restriction of licensee's right or privilege to carry or possess pistol prohibited. No state agency may adopt or promulgate any rule that restricts any right or privilege to carry or possess a pistol in contravention to authority being exercised in accordance with being licensed to carry a concealed pistol pursuant to chapter 23-7. Source: SL 2006, ch 5, § 1. If you want to look any other laws, everything is online here: South Dakota Codified Laws |

Thanks, everyone
Turns out we are going to go a little east to Luverne, MN instead. Minnesota cares not for my Nebraska permit, so no carry for me.
Thanks anyway! /rl |

Puppy - I can see your point, but I am thankful at least some do honor it. It took many years to pass CCW in Nebraska, and it took some compromises. Hopefully preemption and reciprocity will be added soon. Both Wyoming and Colorado will honor Nebraska if Nebraska honors theirs. I'm sure there are several other states that would, too.
