If open carry was legal, how would you carry?

For me, I like to live by the code "Theres nothing tactical about open carry."
I will always carry concealed.
I believe a person carrying open would be the badguy's first target.
How would you carry?

I don't think you are more of a target. You get a few more looks but most people are so wrapped up in their lifes to care.

I would go with strong side OWB. and If i felt "feisty" (LOL) I would go with a shoulder holster.
But I agree, "concealed" is the better tactical choice & thjats the route I go unless I'm back in my woods or on my property and even then it's primarily IWB. My IWB holster (MaxCon) is actually more comfortable than my OWB believe it or not.

Honestly, I know most people wouldn't notice at first, but I really don't want the hassle of the reaction from the people who do notice when I go out. I want to blend in and not be noticed - OC really doesn't fit that.

I agree. And as much as I dislike the word "tactical" nowadays, I like your code. If I have a choice, I carry concealed. However, I think an area with 2 or more people carrying openly would be a pretty good deterrent as well. I have evaluated the two and I just happened to choose concealed.

One of the prime reasons I advocate concealed carry is as a crime deterrent, not just for crime around me, but crime in my area. If I put up with the "inconvenience" of carrying a handgun then other good guys(or gals) will as well. If a measurable percentage of the population in an area are carrying, criminals will start to get scared and move to another area, lowering crime in my area. I can have a noticeable effect on the violent crime rate in my area without ever having to draw my firearm, simply by carrying it concealed on a daily basis. Open carry can only be a deterrent when they see it happening, concealed carry can be a deterrent even when it's not there.

Think about it, given a choice between 2 cars, are you going to try to car-jack the one with an NRA sticker on it?

If this turns into an OC vs CC debate, it's going to be closed.

First and only warning.

I would not, I would be more concerned about someone trying to take it.

See, both OC and CC have their merits. JD had a choice here, he could choose the CC route and simply monitor us and depend on our knowledge that one of the moderators MIGHT be in the crowd. Or he could go the OC route and strap on his moderator weapon and be seen in the discussion.

I think in this case OC was the correct choice. Both were "legal", JD chose open.

I'm a military man. Never give up a tactical advantage. Concealed.
