Open / concealed

I for one carry both ways. I know, I know. Should be conceiled. BUT
Today we were working on a job near some projects in Richmond, va. This place you dont want to be in after 6PM. Well there was an old man about 65 who works for the GC that I sub from. He was sitting on the front porch minding his own business when 2 males about 20 to 25 came over and sat on the sidewalk near where he was sitting. This man does not speak very good english as he just recently got his citizenship from Boznia. I know this man and he dont like trouble so he stays to himself. These 2 started conversing with him and from the roof I could see he was worried. So I along with my Glock 30 tucked into my wateband came down. I walked past them with my gun side exposed to them when I started to talk to the old man. They got up and left quick. Well I know, lets hear it from the pessimists. They might have went back to get some of their friends. So what! My point was to show them that I was carrying so there would be no troubles from them. Worked well, not a word between us. Just goes to show that sometimes showing you carry can also keep probl;ems from arising.

OK, lets hear all the negitives. I know its coming. Point is it worked this time.

No negatives from me. I to believe there is a time and place for each. In your situation you let them know you were armed and wouldn't be taking any BS from them. DON'T START NOTHING/WON'T BE NOTHING. your OC was a warning. If you hadn't OC'd things may have esculated to the point you had to draw.

Way to help a fellow AMERICAN!

Talk to him about getting his own, tell him about VA.

There is a time and place for most everything, the hard part is just figuring out what and where.

I have nothing bad to say about what you did or how you did it. Nice play IMO.

We can take the streets back one small step at a time if we try. We let them go the same way.

Good job.

Stay safe

I think you did a very good deed....indeed.

Open carry is not the bad thing a lot of people would have us believe. I open carry all the time. Did so today, as I do almost every day in fact.

Never had a problem or a bad word.

As the others have said, theres a right time and a wrong time. This one seems to have been the right time. I avoid the downtown Richmond area whenever possible. In the last 5 years the only thing that has taken me down there is my work. I keep thinking maybe someday VCU will clean it up some, since they own a big part of the downtown area.

Just make sure you keep enough distance they can't bum rush you and disarm you,I might of walked to within about 20 feet and asked him if everything was ok,it would give you enough time to draw and fire if it turned ugly.

If you've trained regularly in weapon retention techniques, then it was a great idea. If not, it was a noble gesture and probably still the right thing to do- but it is important to be careful. It is much easier to get the weapon out of the holster than most would believe.
