They're the Judge and Jury on the side of the road. Smart move going along with his lack of knowledge of the law.

Sounds like he was fishing. He had a valid reason to pull you over but I would bet you weren't the fish he wanted.

This demonstrates today's law enforcement attitude versus yesterday's keeping the peace officer attitude.

Robocop/S.W.A.T. contrasted with Andy Griffith.

I wish all new academy grads can spend some time with the short-timers in order to learn what discretion is.

Yep, I spent 3 months serving on the grand jury....thay are all looking for drugs.....that is the big prize and it is usually a felony here in Ohio.

They just need a reason to pull you over and then hope to find a reason to search for drugs. Not that it is wrong, drugs are bad....mmmmkkkk?

Glad you didn't get a ticket. I was pulled over in Texas last year driving on I-40 in the panhandle, also going 7 over, and I was also given a warning. When we stopped for gas at the next town, the clerk said the Highway Patrol in that area only allowed 5 over the speed limit before stopping people. I think we were slightly east of Amarillo when I was pulled over. Like you, I then drove slower, all the way to the NM state line. And this year when I drove across Texas, I kept below 5-over. Seems like most everywhere else I've driven that 10-over is the ticket/no ticket demarcation.

Oh, and someone told me last year that if pulled over in Texas, one is required to inform LEO that you have a CCW license. I have the exact info on TX printed out somewhere, but I'm too tired to look it up.

Anyway, glad he was courteous and glad you didn't get ticketed.

(rant on)
As for the people saying Texas stinks for getting pulled over for doing 7 over the speed limit, etc, etc, etc.....thats what a speed LIMIT is for...don't exceed-you don't get pulled over for speeding, pretty simple if you ask me. Where is the enforcable limit compared to the true/actual posted limit in some of your minds?
It was 2am on a stretch of road that is notorious for conveying contraband through our great state. The trooper was doing his job....period. (rant off)

Grady, yes in Texas you have to immediately inform an officer upon official contact IF you have the handgun on or about your person

no law for animals like this in Texas

If loose gun laws are good for criminals, why do criminals support gun control?

hmmm, I believe he showed discretion in giving him a warning

and if you want to compare today's society/LEO versus Andy Griffith and Mayberry....thats apples and oranges

If a state trooper can catch a wanted person via a 7mph over the limit traffic stop, then more power to them. They are doing their job to help make our society safer.
Timothy McVeigh was caught by a simple traffic stop on a country highway.

You all might want to check local ordinances......cities, townships and the like. Actually, an unrestrained animal in the passenger compartment of a vehicle is way more dangerous than a driver using a cell phone while driving. Two of the cities I drive through on a daily basis have laws in effect. The animal is unpredictable, and also becomes a flying object in case of an accident or severe braking. For those that don't really care about themselves or their animals, just keep doing what you're doing. There may not be any state laws concerning you at this time, but all one needs to do is take some personal responsibility and use common sense. By the way...California already has a state law concerning this....more are soon to follow. If it's not currently illegal in your immediate area, then it should be. Just PM me with any arguments and save posting them here.
