Traveling to WV.
West Virginians,
My wife (VA CHP holder) will be traveling to WV next week. I've read the handgun laws for WV and they are similiar to Va's laws. THe only thing I couldn't find is, if she gets pulled over for a traffic violation, does she need to notify the LEO that she is has a out of state CHP and is carrying a concealed handgun? I appreciate any help and info. THanks

Dont think its in law to do so. All the basics apply no digging during the stop hands on the wheel whatnot. If she is going to possibly expose the weapon, i would advise..."officer I am licensed to carry concealed, it is on my right hip, in my purse, etc.," then proceed. I wouldnt volunteer the information until asked. Plus not all LE are up on reciprocity. They might get spooked too easily.

Thanks jwhite. I already printed out a copy of the WV Attorney Generals page on reciprocity for her to carry "just in case" and the other points you brought up apply "always".
Thanks

I didn't see anything in the WV state code either. My suggestion is to call the state Attorney General's office to find out. Their number is (304) 558-2021. You could also try calling the WV State Police. JWhite had a good point, though. It never hurts to tell the officer about her weapon when he approaches her window.

According to Handgunlaw.us, you do not have to notify an officer. You may do so voluntarily, of course, and many people do so as a courtesy to the officer. Many do not. I've been pulled over once since I received my CHP here in Virginia, and I informed the officer.
In Va, they are going to find out when they run you anyway (if you have a Va CHP), and most cops don't like surprises involving weapons. I was also kind of testing the folklore that if you give the police the courtesy warning about your CHP/weapon, you are less likely to get a ticket. I didn't get the ticket, but I also didn't get pulled over for anything serious, and was courteous to the officer. A sample size of 1 is effectively worthless, and I don't plan to get pulled over often. Hope your wife has a safe trip.

Also, she will be able to enjoy a meal in a restaurant that serves alcohol without having to open carry . . .
. . . a nice change for us Virginians

I would notify the LEO just out of thought.
