How much have you spent? Practice Ammo / Range Costs

I just realised in the last three months I have shot enough ammo to equal the Glock 33 I would like to buy.

I enjoy shooting too much to stop. I know some of you have had the same thought.

Anyone else have this thought? Anyone ever skimp on practice to buy a gun? If so, how long it take and what you get?

I spend about $100 every week on ammo. I could go half as much and buy a new gun every 6 months, but I like shooting guns more than I like buying them.

I shoot an IDPA match every month and log moderate additional range-time with friends or after shooting trap, so my ammo costs are low. The guys I know who shoot a lot, all reload.

I have been spending every last penny on my AR-15 that is on layaway. I put it on layaway on Aug 3, and it was $900. I now owe $400, but have not been able to go shooting at all since that day. :(

Reload and put half or more of your current ammo cost towards the gun you want. If you normaly shoot something other than 9MM get a 9 for high volume practice and reduce your ammo cost further.

Thats why I reload my ammo. There was a time I was shooting 800 to 1,000 rounds a month if not more. That got me into reloading.

I'm not allowed to reload in the barracks. Boooo.

Soon as I get back from deployment and EAS, I'm getting a kit.

I don't really think about it much. I've had other activities that were just as expensive, if not more. Snow skiing and golf off the top of my head. After the initial purchase of $500 or more [for mediocre equipment] then you have to factor in transportation, possibly lodging [I used to take skiing and golfing multi-day trips], lift ticket or greens fees, food and drink, etc., etc.

Hmmm, now that I think about it, shooting may be less expensive. I think I'll go tomorrow and get tuned up for next weeks IDPA shoot.
