A $20 belt from Ross or Walmart is no comparison to a proper fitting gunbelt from a professional beltmaker. The minute you change it will become apparent.

Any holster is best worn with a quality gun belt designed to carry the weight of a gun. No matter what others tell you, until you try a belt designed to carry a gun, you will never know how good it is.

I use a 5.11 tactical leather belt with a permastiff insert and it does well for my 32oz 1911. You can spend alot more for a custom belt by a leather maker and they are very good as well. The answer to your post is ... YES, a good gun belt should be part of your daily attire if you carry daily.

P.S. Glad to hear you dont carry Mexican anymore, its just not safe ... BG's dont normally carry in a holster. YMMV

I carry with the same Bianchi 100 holster - in fact I have a couple of them. I carried for a long time with my old belt, which was like a noodle. Then I finally got a belt from the Beltman...

With my old belt I had to tighten it quite a bit to feel that the rig was securely held in place. A real gunbelt can be worn "more loosely" and still hold the weapon in place properly. I found it was quite a bit more comfortable.

Belts last a loooong time (unless your dog chews them or something.) Save your money - it won't take that long - until you can get a decent one.

best,

Dave

I would go ahead and spend the money to get a good belt, like Beltman or Rafter S. They will last you many years, as long as you don't gain or lose a substantial amount of weight. It will also allow you to carry more comfortably.

Leather Casual Belt - 1.5" | Belts | 5.11 Tactical
I purchased one of these against the advice of this or another board. With in 2-3 months the leather coating starts to peel away. Nothing but junk. A waste of time and money.

Really? I've had mine for almost 6 mos and no signs of poor quality yet but I'll keep my eyes peeled for it. Its not the best there is but it works until I can have a custom made. Tks for the heads up.

I understand the not having money thing. I have 5 kids so I never have any money.

I carry OWB in a Blackhawk SERPA and honestly, I don't own a $50 gun belt. What I use is a $15 Dickies heavy leather work type belt from Walmart. It works great, is very sturdy, and holds the gun as good as any made for a gun type gun belt I have ever tried.

It is black, has the double holes the entire length with a buckle that has the two metal posts for the holes. It's a great belt. And the beauty is, if it wears out I can just get another one from Walmart for another measly $15.

Congrats on the smart move to stop carrying Mexican style. You just improved your odds of not having an ND exponentially.

I've always carried IWB. Used a department store 1.5" leather belt for a while. I thought it was OK, but when I bought my beltman double thickness bullhide belt...wow. It's a world of difference. You won't know how you did without. As far as your budget, don't go cheap. If your belt works for you now, just save a little at a time until you can afford a beltman or equivalent.
