I happened to be at Dollywood last week (love Tennessee!), and stopped at their leather and hat shop there.
The craftsman custon fitted me and cut and assembled it from thick "harness" leather with a heavy duty brass buckle. Absolutely solid; and at $31.00 hard to beat!
Of course there is the entrance fee to the park, but I didn't go there just for the belt.

I have been using an Aker belt I got from Galls. It has a poly insert and is as stiff as a hula-hoop! Absolutely takes all the load you can put on it and distributes it very nicely. $45.

Yep, a belt is nearly mandatory, and a purpose made gun belt is best. There are alternatives (recently saw a thread here on an inexpensive Carhartt leather/nylon belt).

My choice is the Wilderness Instructor belt, 5 stitch in 1.5 inch (around 40 bucks). I love it, and it'll last as long as I do I think. I have a couple 5.11 knock offs, don't wear them much, just not the same to me.

For leather, I've heard nothing but good stuff about the Belt Man. I plan to get a couple of his once I've lost some weight I plan to lose.....

Gotta give a big thumbs up to my new Wilderness Frequent Flyer. HUGE gains over my previous regular belt. I can suggest this for anyone looking for a belt. It's stiff, but not overly stiff. And when I tighten it up, it sure pulls the gun close to me :)
