Always carry whenever possible. You'll feel "nekked" when you don't!

Congratulations. For a moment, when I read your title, I thought you were carrying with a piece of lemon or lime!

Congrats for being 'prepared'...
What type of holster?
Exactly what 'pressure' did you feel on your back?

Stay armed...stay safe!

Way to go.. I've been carrying for a while now. Mostly on weekends. I just recently started carrying on my way to and from work, everywhere I go I have my gun.. (Except in my work place) wish I could carry there too..

TSA and most airlines allow packing your firearms in your checked baggage, so there should be no problems at all -- people fly with firearms every day. There are some restrictions on the number of guns and the amount of ammo you can carry, it must be locked in a hard case, you must notify the agent when you check your bags and demonstrate they are unloaded, etc.

All is documented at the TSA website and with most airlines. In fact Handgunlaw.us has all the info you should need, check the Travel links on the top menu bar.

No one seemed to notice.

Now here's the twist. I am a NY resident and my NY license has restrictions. I also have a Pennsylvania non-resident license to carry. I am on a business trip in Phoenix, Arizona. Arizona honors both my NY and PA licenses. What a great state! My first time carrying and I am almost all the way across the country.
You can carry in Arizona, but we're not allowed in NYC! Is that not the most ridiculous thing you've ever heard!!!

Do you have a PREMISE or a CARRY? NYS has two types and State Troopers (any out there to confirm?) recognize a CARRY as a CARRY.

In Arizona we have a "must issue" CONCEALED WEAPONS PERMIT.

Thanks for all the responses. I've been carrying everywhere except at work and even there, i keep it in my briefcase. I don't feel right leaving it in the rental car!

To answer the questions about the airlines:

I packed my handgun, 2 empty mags, and a box of Gold Dots in a plastic pistol case. I put 2 padlocks on it and ran a cable lock through some internal telescoping handle hardware in my suitcase.

When I arrived at the airport, I went to the Continental counter and told the guy that I needed to declare a firearm. He looked a little confused and went looking for a supervisor. He finally found one and a little on the job training occurred.
The spv had me sign the orange form and asked me to open the case as discretely as possible. He looked at the handgun, said ok and placed the orange tag inside the case and told me to lock it up. Now here is something I'm not too clear on. He put a barcode label on the orange tag and put a duplicate barcode on my suitcase.
He then walked me over to the TSA area where a supervisor took my suitcase to an x-ray machine. He actually took it out of my sight which is against the policy as I understand it. He brought it back, said everything was ok and asked if I needed anything in the suitcase. I unlocked it and checked that everything was still locked up and it was.

I locked the suitcase back up and he placed it on the belt and it disappeared downstairs. All in all, very painless. This was at Newark Airport in New Jerseystan. If it is this simple and painless there, it can't be any worse anywhere else. Of course, ymmv!

Regarding what holster I was using...I am using a Highnoon Split Decision. By pressure, I mean that I I know that I have a hunk of metal and polymer hanging behind me. As I said, it's not an uncomfortable feeling, just that I know something is there. I'm sure its because it was my first day carrying and that once I get used to it, I won't even notice it!
