Carrying in the galleria in birmingham AL

Ok I know there are some alabama people around here. I was wondering if anyone knew if it is legal to CC in the galleria. I was there last saturday and I was CCing but my friend stoped to read one of the rule boards posted and it said no firearms or illegal weapons. Now this may be a dumb question but does that mean i cannot carry even with the permit? I mean cause i've read stories of people who have carried into the birmingham galleria and have needed it coming back to their car at night. So i'm a little mixed up

Did a quick scan on Handgunlaws.us of AL laws. Did not see anything pertaining to signs. Since it does not appear to be addressed, I would say the galleria is not state prohibited. Is the galleria privately owned? If so they can post their property. If you are found carrying they can ask you to leave. If you do not leave you can be arrested for criminal trespassing. Be advised though, IANAL, this is just my opinion.

I think if the sign was inside the mall and not on ( every) entry door all you have to say is it wasn't posted where I entered. We have the same problem at Hanes Mall, it was never posted, but last year I noticed the signs on the Mall entrence doors, however Sears and Belk do not have a sign on their doors, nor is their a sign when entering the mall from these stores. If it is posted at all entrences that you are not allowed to carry, even with your permit. I was just North of Birmingham last week, and I don't think I would be out after dark in some of the areas around Birmingham!! Especially unarmed!!

I carried inside the galleria just this weekend. No one noticed, no one knew. And, yes, there are a good many places in Birmingham that if I had to be, I would definitely want to be carrying.

Signs carry no weight in Alabama. Archer51 is right, any place can ask you to leave if they choose for the good of the business. Concealed means concealed so they should not know. If you have to use it you have broken no laws for carrying.

As far as I understand the law here, don't go to a public demonstration and you should be good to go. Now, I would also advice staying away from K-12 schools(not 100% on laws there, but doesn't effect me anyway) and check on colleges or universities before you go there also. And of course courthouses and such, other than those places you should be good to go unless it is posted at the entrance.

We moved from Mobile to Tennessee right after Katrina. (Had enough of that crap after Ivan, Dennis then Katrina)

In Alabama, signs carry no weight. The business can ask you to leave and if you refuse, you can be charged with trespassing. I only saw a couple of signs in the 15 years we lived there and I never paid any attention to them. They are meaningless except to point out those who wish to restrain your right of self defense so they are useful in determining who to spend your dollars with.

Keep it concealed and you should be fine. I carried in the Galleria several times on trips to Birmingham.

Yeah i didnt think the signs held any legal weight but I wanted to make sure. I carried there just this past weekend too and no one noticed. I just dont want to accidently get made and be escorted out in handcuffs if the signs did hold legal weight. Thanks for the help everyone

I think a lot of times the "No Guns" sign is there only so that if you happen to shoot someone in their store some lawyer can't say the store is liable because they encouraged you to bring a gun in. With the sign up they can claim they did everything they could to keep weapons out of their store.
