Little know fact: Open carry is legal in rural areas of Illinois where no local or county ordinance prohibits it. The state has a patchwork quilt of laws, so if you don't know what applies where you are, unload and store in a case out of reach (legal interstate transport mode).

Never enter any state without knowing the gun laws, whether open carry is legal, whether concealed carry is legal and whether your permit is honored there. Also know where that state allows concealed carry and where it is prohibited. In most jurisdictions, gunlaws are not to be trifled with.

I'm no expert but I'd be mighty careful even with safe passage laws. I visit family in Illinois and one time I carried a shot gun (no ammo) in the back of our 12 passenger Ford Club wagon van. It was wrapped in a blanket only. When my brother-in-law saw it he had a cow because it wasn't properly "cased".

I feel for anyone living in Illinois. That so many good folks could be ruled by a handful of folks in Chicago blows my mind, but wait, that's what's happening now in our nation..sorry, off topic

As long as its unloaded, enclosed in a case. So wouldnt that make fanny pack carry legal? Or even carrying your firearm in a soft case rug on the inside pocket of your jacket, as long as the rug is zipped and the firearm in unloaded, with the magazine in the rug.
