It's definitely a screwed up policy but it's the law at least till you get out of the Army or leave Alaska. I know it has something to do with a couple Army folks at Ft. Wainwright that screwed the rest of you. Anyway, the UCMJ applies both on and off base as long as your active. Maybe your wife needs to start carrying if your that worried (provided your married). Also, keep in mind that it will still apply while on terminal leave if your still in Alaska.

These are people who are trained in the use of all types of firearms and weaponry, many of whom have already served in combat, and who are basically living in the center of a big bull's eye. If terrorists or some radical militant group ever do attack a post and make it past the few armed guards at the entrance, what is the average solider supposed to do? Throw MRE's at them?? I don't get it. Maybe I'm missing something here.

funny things happens to soldiers when they come back from combat. i was actually in denial for quite some time about this subject... but before i went to afghanistan i couldn've cared less about carry a weapon. i even had 2nd thoughts about buying weapons in general. but i for know that it all changed. i guess you don't want to survive combat and come back and get killed by some crack head...

another thing is if you don't regulate joe (lower ranking soldiers), they'll go do the most off the wall S**t. yeah it's pretty extreme that all USRAK soldiers are not allowed to carry. it's basically the high up brass trying to cover theirs, if/when a squad of infantry soldiers has a flash back of iraq/afghanistan and start acting like they did back over there. it's amazing how joe feels invinsible after a combat tour. hey i was the same way so point the finger at me too... but reality eventually sneaks in. now, when i come back from iraq, will i be packin? no comment~

you guys have a great day~!
