Both the OP and the owner referred to the dog as sub-adult, 3/4 grown. We're getting into denial now. It was a puppy. According to his own account in the OP, a puppy ran up to him. He maced him. More importantly, he reached to draw a gun, and then he called the cops. Not a marauding pack of pitbulls on a killing spree. A puppy.

Maybe the OP hasn't got the same life experience you do. Sounds like you are an absolute authority.

I have owned nothing but rotties for my adult life. Various breeds in the house while growing up. My rotties were and are, well socialized teddy bears to all young and old. I know the characteristics of the breed and how to handle them BUT, to have one come full tilt at me as the OP........ I sincerely doubt you are a greater dog lover than I am but had I been in the OP's position I may have done the same.

You seem to be infatuated with using the term puppy even when numerous posters pointed out that the owner is the one calling them that after then fact.

If you still can't see that maybe common sense and reason does not work for you.

Yes, in his eyewitness account that we're discussing, he and the owner referred to the dog as sub-adult, ie a puppy.

I think we've just about covered it.

Does AKC call you to set the standards for them too? You seem to be expecting others to play by your standards....

My point is that you'd better think twice about flipping your own switch and drawing a gun on a dog that's just running up to you. In the aftermath, you might realize that you would have been way better off even if the dog did actually bite you.

Although it is unfortunate that the thread was attempted to be hijacked by one person who intends on personally attacking others instead of engaging in meaningful dialog. I apologize to you for hijacking your post but I could not let someone insult you and make a glib, arm chair judgement concerning your actions. I believe everyone should be given the benefit of the doubt. What some people say they would do in this kind of situation and what they do under the same conditions are most of the time very different. I still believe you made the right call. If you made any error you did so on the side of safety. In this case for you and the dogs. I will step off the soapbox now. I believe I've made my point to all those with honest intentions.

Nuff said.
Just to alleviate more confusion. As stated in my original post I did not DRAW my gun, I covered it with my hand. I did not grab it by the handle even, I lifted my shirt and with a flat hand I placed my hand over the pistol. How is my original post being edited and revised in the minds of someone else when it was clearly written?

My only issue is when I hear people say that the owner should not ever have let his dog out. As being a responsible dog owner, sometimes there can be accidents. My father in-law is a little dense about making sure our front door or rear gates are closed and my dogs have slipped out before. The ******** are quick! haha

My point is that some people tend to carry firearms and pepper spray and look for excuses to use them, and by no means am I saying that this is the case during this confrontation. I think people need to be cognizant in what they are doing and make sure to not use excessive force unless it's necessary.
I understood what you meant. I have no problem with someones dog being unchained in their own yard, in fact it is perfectly legal and safe. But, when the dog leaves that yard the situation becomes fluid and unpredictable.

No, the point is he may not have had time to think twice. You worry me because if you carry a gun and you have to think twice about whether to use it you are going to get yourself killed. And, speaking of time, I have given you PLENTY of time to think about my question to you and you still refuse to answer it. Would you draw down on me if I was only 5/8 grown and coming at you with a gun. You won't answer because the question shows how fallible you reasoning really is
