I may be moving off topic here but it must be some sort of personality flaw with some LEOs. It's like some of them take it personal when someone breaks the law and they totally flip out and curse and threaten etc... Where others do not. I used to be a reserve officer and I have taken people to jail and never gotten even the least bit upset with them. Why should I? Maybe I'm just an easy going fellow.

here's an example of an ohp officer totally out of control -> http://www.youtube.com

With the 4th of July weekend coming up there will be even more of these “Revenue Enhancement Stops” popping up.

I'm certainly no constitutional lawyer but these things have to be unconstitutional. I told a LEO that at a road check down in South Carolina. Of course they couldn't care less. Come on LEO's chime in. Our rights are being trampled in order to:

1. Stop drunks
2. Catch illegal aliens
3. What else?

These aren't "safety checks" or DL checks or anything else other than the illegal stopping of people on public byways without a hint of probable cause. Welcome to the new America where your rights have been flushed down the toilet.

I believe, with the exception of airplanes,if you are a citizen of this country, you should be able to travel without interference. Unless of course, you break the law.

I really don't mind these checks. If you keep you Lic, tags & insurance up to date you have nothing to worry about.

We used have to have 'em fairly often in SC and they would nab a lot of illegals that way. But the Feds wouldn't ever pick them up so they just about quit. I haven't seen one now for a couple of years.

You probably want government health care too!

They have plenty of local drug dealers to screw with if they want someone to harass! Oh I forgot those guys shoot back, it's not as safe as screwing with the average law abiding citizen at a DL check!

If memory serves, several state supreme courts have ruled that such checks in their respective states are constitutional.

Indiana Supreme Court ruled that these types of stops without warrants are UNCONSTITUTIONAL (Indiana Constitution).

And why would you announce that you are concealed carrying to the cop? I could understand and would strongly encourage you to announce that you were carying if you were asked to "step from the vehicle", but other wise I would say "Keep Your Mouth Shut". Why give the cop the opportunity to get excited or over react?

I think you are making your own problems there.

I only take an interest because my mom lives in this community and her experience seems typical of the residents who love the checkpoints now out of necessity. She has been hit 3 times by red light runners who were drunk, unlicensed, illegal and uninsured. Two tried to run away on foot but were too drunk to succeed.

ESCONDIDO: Driver's license checkpoint locations vary : North County Times - Californian 06-13-2009

The city of Escondido towed and impounded over 10,000 autos in a three year period from unlicensed drivers identified in checkpoints. 10,000 ? Article dated 4-21-09 to confirm that number. 3rd paragraph from the bottom.

http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2009...9f00787abd.txt

The average cost to spring a car from impound is $1100. Nice boost to the Police Dept budget.

Yep, in the interest of safety we sometimes cause ourselves inconvienence or even the loss of freedom. Bummer

In some states such as NC, LEO notification is required by law.
