DL checkpoint went sideways - for the other guy.

My wife and I pulled up to a drivers license checkpoint last night. Two lanes funneled down to one, we were about 4 cars back from the LEO.

This was my first opportunity to notify of my carry status, so I was getting my paperwork out and handy, sort of going over my announcement in my head.

A car sort of zoomed up next to us and stopped real short - like they didn't realize what was happening with the lane closure. Then they pulled a quick U turn and sped off.

Well, my first opportunity to notify evaporated as all three LEOs ran to their cars and headed of in pursuit.

Welcome to Checkpoint Chickie!

Maybe the guy that sped off was the guy they were looking for.

All of the LEOs left? Sounds like the car that did the U-turn could have been a distraction, intended to draw LE away so that a couple of unlicensed drivers could get through...maybe...

Me and a friend got stopped at a dl checkpoint a few weeks ago. As I was getting my dl and permit ready to hand to the officer a guy with his kid pulled up in front of us on a go-kart followed by a woman in a pickup with an unbuckled child standing up in the front seat. Go-kart guy was not too good at following instructions and tried to drive off. Needless to say the Leo that was standing at my window went from friendly to irate in about 2 seconds. I was worried about telling him I had a firearm on me at that point. He told me to have a nice day and to go on without checking any of my stuff so I was happy about that. I imagine they see all kinds of stuff like that at these checkpoints, especially here in rural Oklahoma :)

So do I. I've seen it done to catch DUIs but never just for the sake of checking DLs. Any way you slice it I don't like it.
