Qualifications

jvanwink, 8-hour class. Most of class (at least the one I attended) was devoted to the Law, and Scenarios. The shooting qualifications were a total of 25 rounds, minimum of 18 within the required retangle (fairly large rectangle), from three different ranges (5 shots at 3 yards, single handed.......10 shots at 7 yards and 10 yards, two handed, 5 shots then reload for 5 more shots). Safety stressed. All passed (17 in my class), with a few AT 18 shots.

jvanwink, If you can put aqll 25 in a 8" paper plate you won't have any issues with the shooting part. Get your KS. DL. as quickly as you can there is a 6 month waiting period to est. residence. If you have an out of state Non Residence License from someplace that KS. recodnises then you'll be ok until you can get your KS.

Welcome aboard Tom, I'm in SW Kansas also. If you haven't already done so check out KSCCW.com, great people there also with some more "local" information. Enjoy the waiting, practice as much as possible and continue to practice after you get your permit. Unless you have some land or know someone that does, there are not many shooting ranges in our area. I've joined the Fort Larned Arms Association, Fort Larned Arms Association • Index page, nice range, easy to get to, reasonable price, and they have defensive pistol shooting events once a month.

For all you Kansas folks, the wait for your permit is going to be closer to the 90 day maximum. I sent my paperwork in on April 15, and still haven't received anything. Background check was completed May 5th.

Welcome aboard from a fellow Kansan, I think the wait is gradually getting longer but deffinately worth the wait.

81 days as of today <7/8> since the AG received my application. Got home from work about 4:30pm, checked the mail ... whoa! THE LETTER arrived ... on a Wednesday (typically they have been going once a week, on a Friday)! Got back in the truck and went straight to DL office before they closed, paid the fee, took the photo ... done deal! All within the same day of receiving "the letter."

Just in time for my trip to Denver, CO this weekend. After last week's "no show," I figured I was screwed.

A happy camper now!

Thanks, Manan. Yes ... one more legal sheepdog to guard the door, which ultimately benefits everyone.

Take care.
