When you enter St. Louis, keep going. That's my advice. Stop for gas after you are an hour (at least) from the city limits.

No, I-70 in IL becomes I- 270 in MO and belts around St. Louis to the south where in intersects I-44 near Fenton at exit 5B.

I usually pick up I-44 near the split with I-55 close to the river, instead of driving way out of the way to go around the metro area. I go through the metro area, using the shortest route, which takes me past Kingshighway on I-44. Kingshighway was mentioned with respect to the I-64 closure, which is why I asked.

Here are the statutes for Missouri weapons offenses listed on the Missouri Attorney General website: RSMO-Chapter 571
Pay special note to Section 571-107, as it lists where concealed carry is not allowed: Section 571-107 Endorsement does not authorize conceale Paragraph (7) deals with restaurants and alcohol. Paragraph (15) covers other private businesses. If the parking lot is open to the public, i.e., not gated or guarded with security, a business cannot prevent you from carrying in your car. EVEN IF AN OPEN PARKING LOT ITSELF IS POSTED WITH PROPER SIGNAGE, the signs carry no weight of law. They only indicate the owner is either an anti or seriously misinformed. Paragraph (16) covers sports arenas and their parking lots: Quote:

Bottom line is this: if you are asked to leave someplace that is posted, LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. Here's another bottom line that most anti's and some do-gooders choke on: one can just about carry anywhere they damn well please, and it IS NOT A CRIME. People will spout and sputter about intent, integrity, and other BS, but my concern is not pleasing and placating every other person in St. Louis or elsewhere. My sole intent is to protect myself and my family. The Missouri statutes say I can do that and carry just about anywhere. I don't give a flying truck about the opinions of others. The law lists what's legal and what isn't. That's good enough for me. Of course, if a place has metal detectors or a pat-down search, I wouldn't advise carrying. If it's federal property, I wouldn't advise carrying. Most other places, it IS NOT A CRIME. Doesn't matter how many or who chafes at that statement. I quoted from the Missouri Attorney General website. I'd say the website can be considered accurate. Now, if one is discovered carrying in one of those places, it may mean a discussion with police. It may involve a trip to the police station. Some rabid LEO may confiscate your weapon. You might even need a lawyer. I expect no charges in the end, unless you caused a ruckus or they dream up a "disturbing the peace" charge. Regardless, you have the law in front of you, and you can make your own decision. If you conceal well, it shouldn't be an issue. If there is a need to draw to protect you and/or your family, a possible trespassing charge isn't relevant in the least. My safety and my family's safety come first. If others don't like it, too bad. I've had to follow laws before that I didn't like, now it's their turn. Again I quote "... shall not be a criminal act..." How much clearer does the law need to be? Pertaining to missing an exit and ending up in Illinois, yes, it's possible. I recommend studying a map well before driving through downtown. Others have given you good advice on what areas to avoid downtown. They know better than I do--I avoid that area as much as possible, and have for years. You should be able to miss most or all of the I-40 construction if you come up I-44. Again, check the map carefully, and perhaps look online for any construction updates of the area. Hope you have fun up here. Lots to see, just need to be careful and use your best SA. I think some of the highlights here are the zoo, Forest Park (next to the zoo), the Botanical Gardens, and the Arch, if those appeal to you. The Arch has a movie of how it was made, and it's worth the price to view it. They also have a movie of the U.S. westward expansion. IIRC it was good, but it's been a long time since I saw it. The tram to the top of the Arch also costs, but it's a must-see if you visit the Arch. Oh, if you go to the Arch, DON'T park with your gun in the parking garage. I believe that is considered federal property and security could hang you for having a gun in your car. I'd park on the street if you want to visit the Arch. Absolutely, under no circumstances, carry onto the Arch grounds, which covers a lot of area including the parking garage. Don't get caught thinking all those grassy fields that look like a park, with those tree-lined walking lanes, are good to carry. If you're walking around downtown after dark,

Fast Draw, to confuse you further. I-55, I-70, and I-64 all join together and cross the same bridge. Once over the bridge, they split again. Just follow the signs. About a mile from the bridge, I-44 starts and splits off from I-55.
If you want to avoid downtown traffic and are coming either west on I-70 or south on I-55, Catch I-270 at about the 15 or 18 mm (depending on which road you are on) and take it around to I-44. about 2 miles difference, less traffic and much better roadway. in response to F-350, Cabellas is in Hazelwood, a suburb of St. Louis. It is in North County, not "Northside", meaning the bad part of the City. To the OP, In downtown, you will be okay. Just lke any other big city, keep your eyes and ears open. Do you know which part of St Louis you will be staying in? We can guide you a little better that way. Roger |

Follow the signs. Stay the right lanes as you begin to head southwest on what appears to be I-55 south. It will merge into-I-44 and you will then be heading west on I-44.

I live and work in St Louis. Leaving your weapon in the glove box/lock box while you go to the game will be fine. I wouldn't venture to far north of Market Street in the city, stay away from 64/40 as it is a construction nightmare. 255/270 is the loop and is alright as long as you're not going north in the morning or south in the evening. 44 and 70 go in/out of the city and can be thick around rush hour as well. Signage is pretty good in the area and most highways have a marking for 'last exit in MO' so unless you're headed to see the less dressed women of East St Louis(Illinois), it shouldn't be hard to stay on the right side of the river. Open carry is legal in MO, but you'll get most likely get a rash of trouble from the locals and the law man in the city, so best to keep it tucked.
Enjoy the games |
