I've been all over Franklin, just south of Nashville, since Tuesday and haven't seen a single one.

I was in Nashville on business this week staying in Franklin by the Cool Springs Mall. I ate at Carrabba's and Las Palmas in Franklin, Outback in Brentwood, and the Olive Garden in Murfreesboro. I did not see any signs.

Funny, my wife and I were walking into our favorite Mexican restaurant here in Collierville tonight and as I opened the door, she stopped and said, "Don't you need to go back and put your gun in the car?" I proudly responded, "No...remember it's legal now".

I then got wasted on Shrimp fajitas and Diet Coke!!!

See here for a report on those that have:

RESTAURANTS THAT HAVE POSTED - Tennessee Gun Owners

and have not thus far:

RESTAURANTS THAT HAVE NOT OR WILL NOT POST - Tennessee Gun Owners

Unfortunately, I have no answer for the Grand Ole' Opry or the Ryman. I never go....

From the TNGunowners site...."I work in Donelson so I went to my favorite "lunch spot" today, DARFONS. It was posted "no guns" so I disarmed, went in and cashed in my "rewards points card". I had over 1,000 points (a dollar per point) I asked to cash it in and they asked why I was not eating there today. I told them that it was due to their posting. They thought that I was kidding...... "

Isn't it funny how they think they are doing what they think most of their customers want. It is also interesting that they are REALLY putting the remaining patrons at a higher risk as the "law abiding" gun owners won't be there to save their butts!!!

Wow, great way to save up for your next pistol and carry rig. Once you have it I would take some pics and go in to thank them being sure they understood the value of the set up and its MONEY that WOULD have been spent in the establishment!
It does not come to a hill of beans as there are so few of us that carry but it will be good for your soul and maybe, just maybe, they will see the bigger picture and change.

Thanks for the post.... WOW ,, Did anyone read the first post?.. OMG. Asking every customer if they had a gun? I use to eat there. Sounds like that place will ALWAYS be posted. I'll have to pay them a visit while in town next time just so they know they lost another customer.

IIRC, that posting was by Nikki Goeser, whose story is here:

Witness Testifies In Fatal Bar Shooting - Nashville News Story - WSMV Nashville

Notice that the news story left something out: because of Tennessee law at the time, Nikki, who is a handgun carry permit holder, had to leave her firearm locked in the car (similar to what happened to Dr. Gratia-Hupp in Killeen, Texas, at the Luby's Cafeteria). Johnny's Sports Bar, where Mr. Goeser was killed, has posted no carry, of course....

Do signs carry any weight, or would I just be asked to leave?

It has to be a correct sign. A gun with a line through it doesnt count.

(a) An individual, corporation, business entity or local, state or federal government entity or agent thereof is authorized to prohibit the possession of weapons by any person otherwise authorized by §§ 39-17-1351 — 39-17-1360, at meetings conducted by, or on property owned, operated, or managed or under the control of the individual, corporation, business entity or government entity. Notice of the prohibition shall be posted. FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THIS PROHIBITION IS PUNISHABLE AS A CRIMINAL ACT UNDER STATE LAW AND MAY SUBJECT THE VIOLATOR TO A FINE OF NOT MORE THAN FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($500).

(b) Nothing in this section shall be construed to alter, reduce or eliminate any civil or criminal liability that a property owner or manager may have for injuries arising on their property.

(c) Any posted notice being used by a local, state or federal governmental entity on July 1, 2000, that is in substantial compliance with the provisions of subsection (a) of this section may continue to be used by the governmental entity.

(d) The provisions of this section shall not apply to title 70 regarding wildlife laws, rules and regulations.

highoctane is correct.

However...one must be especially careful just now. Firearms laws are under a microscope right now because the "Naifeh logjam" was cleared out this session. Tennessee's Attorney General has issued these on signage:

http://tennessee.gov/attorneygeneral...07/OP/OP43.pdf

http://tennessee.gov/attorneygeneral...7/OP/OP148.pdf

http://tennessee.gov/attorneygeneral...0/OP/OP161.pdf

To my knowledge, no court has ruled on what "substantially similar" means, for example. At this time, I would recommend that no one carry past any sign in Tennessee where the property owner's clear intent is to prohibit carry, "substantially similar" or not. Some prosecutor or judge may be looking to make his or her mark. OMO, YMMV.
