I've told this one before but I guess I can hash it out again. Back in about 1989 when my wife was still very active in community service we got invited to a big wig fundraiser that was being held in the offices of one of Miami's biggest and most prestigious law firms. Took up a whole floor of a downtown skyscraper. Dinner, shrimp/lobster cocktails and open bar (not for me). This was the last time I'd ever carry in a Yaqui Slide holster! I was carrying a 1911 Officer's Model in the slide holster, dressed in a suit when we sat down to dinner. Understand all the city brass were there: Chief of Police, Mayor, City Councilmen, everybody. So as I was easing into the chair I took no notice of the arms on the chair which neatly caught the muzzle of the Colt and just as smoothly pushed it up out of the holster and onto the hardwood polished floor. with a resounding KERCHUNK! All conversation stopped. EVERYBODY turned to stare. I mean EVERYBODY. I calmly leaned over and scooped up the piece to re-holster. I resumed eating and so did everybody else. After dinner we circulated and a few wanted to know if I was a cop. I told them, "No, but I AM a certified Firearms Instructor and I believe in protecting my family when in downtown Miami in the middle of the night." I then explained that no instructor worth his salt is EVER done "learning" and I'd just learned a valuable lesson on holsters! My wife suddenly wasn't feeling well, so we left. When we did, about 25 couples left too! They wanted .... my business card! I did get some classes out of that evening, too. But I'll never forget the evil eye I got from the Chief of Police or the wicked grin I gave him in return. He knew I had a permit and he didn't like it. Tough.

One guy got on with me, and as the elevator was going up, he said “you a cop or something”, I replayed “or something”. He never said anything else and neither did I.

I was buying a 9mm from a close friend. Naturally he let me take it to the range before I purchased it. Upon pulling up to his house at say 9 or 10pm I see red and blues in my rear view mirror. I was thinking to myself... this cop is going to come over here and think I am about to rob this house... nope, the cop takes off. Relieved, I step out of my vehicle, put the gun in my pants at high noon and stepped onto my friends property. About this time I see the cop turning around... He hits me with the spotlight and I have to explain to him why I am A. 20 years old B. without a concealed carry permit and C. why I have a gun stuck in my pants like a hoodlum in a not-so-nice neighborhood. He detained me and called for backup. Thank goodness for the copy of AZ Handgun Laws that was on my dash. I think it helped prove my legitimacy.

Getting hugged by a family member or close friend and having them stare wide eyed at me and ask, "Is that a gun?"

On a couple of occasions, I've been asked why all the heavily-laden pockets, while pocket-carrying my firearm.

I simply mumbled some sort of response about how much "stuff" I find I need to carry these days, what with the wallet, phone, keys, notepad, and whatever other items I've got that day.

Wasn't embarrassing, really, though it did catch me a little off-guard since it's so rare that anyone notices anything at all.

Otherwise ... I don't recall ever having dropped it on the floor, nor having bumped into someone who wondered what it was, nor really said something foolishly embarrassing about carrying, etc. Color me blessed, I guess. Though, I know the gods are watching. I just figure they're biding their time.

The closest I've come to having an embarrassing moment CC'ing is when one of my little kids hugged me in a store and bumped his head on my gun. He said ouch! A lady near us looked and as far as I know just figured he hit his head on my cell phone.
