Yes and no........

Like Ram Rod, if I'm home for awhile it comes off but kept close by. It also depends on the holster I'm wearing as well. Half the time I'll keep it on me though......it's still the safest place for it to be.

I agree with a post I read. It has become a lifestyle. I live deep in the country in a one road in one road out small community. Watching the news in the evening often brings the reason why I carry even at home. Several times a week I see news on home invasions. How I don't won't this to ever happen to me or my family it give a piece of mind knowing that I am prepared if such is to happen.

Regardless of where folks live they need to be aware of home invasions. I used to be a 911 dispatcher in NC (Harnett County) and home invasions scare the poop out of me. If you think you will have time to go to the bed room to get your gun during a home invasion you need to think again. At best you will have to leave your family in danger while running for your gun and at worst you just won't have the chance. Your best bet is to have your weapon on you and be ready to use it as soon as you identify the threat. Having a good dog doesn't hurt, in fact I think a good dog is the best security system you can buy. Just don't be afraid to shoot because your dog is in the way, I love my dog to death but if she dies during a home invasion she did her job.

One great advantage of things like J frames and my LCR is that you can drop them in your robe pocket when taking the dog out at 3 am. Not that I would get attacked then, I'm sure any potential threat would be too busy laughing at my night cap (think Ebenezer Scrooge) to do anything else if they saw me walking the pup in the wee hours...

Home invasions are now committed by two or more bad guys, a tactical rile is a great advantage for a out numbered home defender....

When I am home, it is either on my hip or within arms reach.

Yes, but I keep several pieces around the house always loaded for easy access even from the toilet!

When I am home and not in the barracks on base I always put it in the holster and on my hip. If I dont want to carry IWB, then I just use the handy paddle holster that came with my XDm while in my home. When I get ready for bed, I have a shelf built into my head board that it goes on. It sits right on my Bible, because if I need it I would hope God would be so kinda as to help me smite the evil in my home threatening my family.
