I work retail. I don't know of a single retail store to allow employees to carry. My boss isn't gun friendly either, but I still talk about them with my coworkers.

a bit long...

I work for a hotel and until the first of the year, while privately owned, we were affiliated with a national chain that plainly stated in its employee handbook, No Weapons …however since I work graveyard I did bend the rules a bit , for piece of mind, and carry pepper spray. The hotel isn’t in a ‘bad’ area per se, we have in-house security, access to the building after 11p is only via the main entrance and local LEO’s regularly drive through our lot and those of the adjoining businesses, often stopping in for a brief chat and to see how things are. All in all not an unsafe place to work but I still wasn’t crazy about working the shift I do and not being able to carry. I realize that concealed means concealed and since I wasn’t really around other employees I probably could have carried and no one would have been the wiser, but…..

Well the first of the year all that changed, our owners decided to go independent and cut our affiliation with the national chain. We got a new name and along with it a revised employee handbook. Being hopeful , and strongly suspecting that the owner was at least somewhat 2A friendly, I decided to take the plunge and ask him if, since we were no longer affiliated with XYZ chain, would I now be permitted to carry while on shift. I explained that I had a valid CPL, that I regularly went to the range for practice and that, while I didn’t feel unsafe working here, I just wanted that extra piece of mind just in case anything did ever happen. He just looked at me for a moment and at that point I kind of thought that maybe I had misgauged his gun-friendliness especially when he started rifling through some papers on his desk without saying anything, however, I was very relieved when he pulled out his own CPL and stated that that reminded him that he needed to get his permit renewed! Wow! (although I had suspected as much) The rest of the conversation was quite pleasant regarding what I carried and for how long, what range I went to, etc. and even about some of the firearms he had. While I never did get a direct answer to my question about carrying on shift, I definitely left that meeting with the sense that it was no longer against the rules and even that he was a bit surprised that it had taken me as long as it did to ask him about it!
All in all a VERY good outcome!

That's a pretty cool place indeed.

One day my boss walked into my office and as he got to my desk, he reached inside his shirt and pulled out a Ruger LCP. First time he's ever done that so it kinda surprised me. I checked it out and handed it back to him and said it was cool, he said, "J got one too" (company owner) I said, cool again. I wasn't going to get into the show and tell thing, so I kept mine holstered and didn't mention, Hey! I got one too.

We don't have a written policy that I'm aware of. Our company has 200 employees total. I'm not sure about most, but I'm fairly certain that most of our management team carry daily. It's a pretty secure location overall, cameras everywhere and locked entrances and exits. We even have a buzz line and if it comes over the speaker, three of us are ask to go to the front desk, or where ever requested. It's only happened once in the 10 years that I've been there, but no weapons were ever visible. It's mainly as a show of force for a unruly employee that's been terminated, or the occasional homeless guy that refuses to leave when the receptionist ask him to.

Must be nice! I get the "Just humoring you" face when I begin to discuss firearms at work.

I don't do that anymore...

Just because someone is a retired military member, it does not mean they have nothing against guns.

My office is a 100% pro gun place. The employer even offers to pay for his employee's cost to acquire a Texas CHL. How can you beat a deal like that.

P.S. Being self-employed is great!

Perks of being the boss, I carry all the time. I have a spent target hanging on my office door for reflection.

I'm not allowed to even bring a firearm on my employer's property. 1st offense = termination. I envy you...

When someone at my company announces that they got a new toy, they are ordered to bring it in for show and tell. We used to shoot skeet at our company BBQ at the bosses property.

I work as a pilot for a cargo company that is fairly gun friendly. While I know I work with a couple I would be careful about what I was talking about around who - but guns and shooting to come up from time to time so its no secret that maybe as many as half of us own multiple guns and shoot at least occasionally. As airline or cargo pilots we are able to take advantage of an offer from HK for a deeply discounted HK USP compact LEM version and I know at least 4 of us took advantage of this offer (myself included). Our most recent company recurrent training session when we were covering hazardous materials (such as what we can and cannot load or carry on our aircraft) one of our quiz questions was even regarding personal quantities of ammunition (which we are allowed) and it was discussed that some pilots in the past have taken their personal firearms and gone target shooting at some of our layover locations. Luckily with our cargo operations we are not subject to the TYPE of security that our peers at the airlines deal with so it would really be no problem to carry onto our aircraft. I know some who have - I personally have not carried at work yet but probably will occasionally in the future - and at least try out some different ranges! It has also come in handy covering the ground I do so I can scour wally worlds in multiple states for ammo! I have airline friends that are also able to essentially do the same, but I got a call from homeland security to act as a character witness and there is a significantly more amount of red tape and training (which is a good thing).
