All good points on the "slippery slope" argument, but here is something to think about. If you have bought a firearm in say the last 10 years or so, from a FFL dealer and not an individual, the government already has knowledge of you owning that firearm. We can claim "lost" or "stolen" if it ever got to the point of manditory gun registration (which would only be accomplished with lots of casualties), but they would still know where to start.
But hey, it makes for good debate.
