Okay, truthful answer here. If I'm alone in the house I set the alarm and my LCP stays in the front pocket of the shorts, or jeans that I'm coming out of when gettin in the shower. If something goes down, my alarm will give me some amount of advanced warning and I'm good with that.

I guess Rogerthat has a point. I mean if I was going to perform a home invasion, I would wait for a best case scenario to occur. The shower is a top contender for just that title. When we go to sleep, it can take some of us an hour or more to get into a deep REM sleep state. Some of us are light sleepers. Not to mention that the darkness would be as much a hindrance as an asset.

Meanwhile, in the shower, you're distracted. Soap on your face, hands, feet, and so on. The noise from the water, fan, radio, etc. will keep you from hearing anyone coming in. I can tell you from personal experience that in some apartment buildings (remember folks, we use pressboard and Celotex in this country) you can easily hear when your neighbor is taking a shower (or many other activities as well).

On the other hand, it does strike me as a bit on the paranoid side. Emphasis on the "bit" part. Yes, I have put a Glock on the toilet tank for an easy grab if I hear a foreign sound. Yes, I have considered a more robust strategy for moments when I am not at a tactically sound position. Yes, I have noticed a distinct lack of consideration on my part for some portions of my day.

But I guess that I consider (not a judgment call on ANYONE BUT MYSELF) my actions to be flying in the face of my own naturally occurring fears. I have PTSD from Iraq, and it is difficult to differentiate between a sound strategy for safety and plain old paranoia. It is just my way of telling myself to "Shut-up and relax" sometimes. Will this become an issue later?

God, I hope not.

But in the meantime, I will only take the actions that I NEED to to protect my family and myself. Every time I strap on my gun, I weigh the odds and decide from there. I don't Constant Carry, I only do so when I feel that the odds are not in my favor.

Bathroom Business in general is one moment of many that we are all in a "guard-down" state, and I try to balance my carrying habits to such accordingly.

I keep a 9mm in the bathroom at all times, and lock the door, whenever I'm in there for any reason. Before everyone gets all upset, I'm over 65 and no young kids around, just the wife and myself.

I have to admit - after 7 pages, I'm surprised this hasn't come up.

Ah, well, someone had to :)

If loose gun laws are good for criminals, why do criminals support gun control?

Cool Carrying

When I was younger and had to travel I NEVER left home without a defensive blade taped to my thigh. It never came off unless I was swimming until I came home.

If I'm up, I'm armed! No matter when, no matter where if it is legal.

I have come out of a sound sleep grabbing for my weapon because of a strange noise.

I have dogs at home that will bark if they hear a strange noise. one of the dogs stays in my bedroom with me and my wife.

I know that someone can get to me but I will take care to see that I am prepared whenever possible.

I'm a true believer in murphys law. I do prep for incase of home invasion or someone lurking in my home. The best one of them all as most would agree.. is to have a gun nearby. There for I'm going to take advantage of the fact that I have one in all scenarios. I don't think someone is going to break in my home when I'm showering or doing other things as well, but I do know there is a possibility. That in itself is enough reason for me to not ignore it. Paranoia can also save ones life if you want to even call it that. Paranoia is anxiety or fear that isn't rational, but know that most people who don't like the fact that you even have a gun on you when your out in public think that you are paranoid. So there are different levels and degrees of this. Am I slightly paranoid? Or are you obliviant? Are anti-gun peeps Obliviant? or are you paranoid? Perception is reality. I'm not going to duct tape a gun to me while I'm in the shower, but I am going to leave one in my bathroom as I know I'm eliminating a slight possibility of being caught off guard. To whoever said they could just stab me through the shower curtains... I coincidentally have clear transparent shower curtains. Not something I planned.

I'm really thinking you should consider the claymores. It's gonna be in for 2010.

Skip the shower.

Take a bubble bath.

Problem solved.
