I understand how you feel about your son being victimized. I'm glad that you kept your cool about 'hunting them down while armed'.
The day will come (out of the Cosmos) for those dirtbags when their 'early retirement number' will be called...it's only a matter of time.

Our society is continuing to grow more dangerous and vicious. I'm not sure that our leaders are capable or even willing to deal with the real problem of 'youth violence'.
Combine the ME generation with extra empty time and drugs and it makes for many undeserved victims.

I know that Ted was right when he said, "I don't like repeat offenders, I like dead offenders."

In my opinion, the sooner these types of individuals are all legally dead, yes...I mean DEAD (they do nothing but waste O2)...the better off society will be.

Someday, when you get to know me better, I'll be willing to tell you how I really feel.

Sucks that this happened but I'm glad he is OK, and got some licks in too. It could have been very bad, as I'm sure you are aware.

Is your Son old enough for CCW? Would he be willing to do so knowing the dangers out there much better now?

Thanks To All

I wanted to thank all who read my post and a special thank you to those who responded! It was very much appreciated and there was a lot of great advice and encouraging words.
As a short follow up. We did try the cell phone and GPS thing but apparently the reason for the taking the cell phone was to remove the possibility of the police being called immediately. There were no calls made according to the call record and the phone's GPS was of no help as the phone was either turned off or destroyed.
Anyway, I thank the good Lord my son was not seriously hurt. And I believe he'll be more aware now. What some people call, "Condition Orange"
I pray he has learned not to put himself in a dangerous situation like that again. And if trouble does come looking for him, he'll be better prepared for the encounter.
Again, thanks everybody!

Imagine the surprise of these and other li'l wannabe gangstah guys when they pick out and pick on the wrong "soft" target. They will sooner or later.

If you have this kind of activity in your area, what is he doing "coming home from the mall" alone? We just had a very young girl in our area get plucked off the street and then found dead in a garbage dump across state lines. There are brutal thugs out there, don't allow your child become a victim.

Situational awareness is just so critical these days. Living in a state of paranoia and fear is one thing... a healthy understanding of your surroundings is another.

I highly recommend martial arts. I've been doing it since I was 6 and the experience has been invaluable on several occasions in my life.

I am very sorry about what happened to your son. He has all right to be upset, and so do you as well as his mother. However, I believe that you did totally right when you decided not to go out to “find” them. Because if you had found them the consequences could had been tragic for all your family; in particular to you. And those punks are not worth that! retsupt99 is totally right when he says that the day will come when they will have to pay back for their actions; the bad part is that it might take long time before it happens, and before that they are free to do the same again. But as long as there is life there is hope; perhaps next time they try to do the same to some one that is carrying
That about pepper spray until he can get the CCW is a very good idea. Perhaps you could already now start to give him some firearm training.
I am glad that your soon is doing well.

I like guns and I like shooting. However, I carry a gun for protection; I wish I did not need to do it. Hopefully I never will need to use my gun, but considering what is going on in our society I am afraid that some day I will have to.

First, I'm glad your son is OK. It's important to understand that he is OK and not in a coma or at the funeral home!

If you are going to carry a gun, you better get out of your head the thought of going out to find these thugs. Retribution and guns do not mix! I would cease trying to be on the lookout for any of these punks. I can assure you, not much will happen to them as far as the law goes. And this far removed from the actual incident, it would be hard put to place any of them at the scene.

As far as your son getting his carry permit goes... He has to wait until he is of legal age to obtain the permit. They are not going to give any special favors because he was mugged.

His best course of action is to start preparing himself now emotionally and maturity wise for the day when he is eligible to obtain his permit. He should start learning about responsible carry now. He should start learning about use of force laws and those surrounding lethal force.

He should also sit back and evaluate just how he allowed himself to get into that situation and how to avoid them in the future. Situational awareness helps allow people to avoid most if not all those kinds of situations and if not avoid it, keep from being blindsided or caught off guard.

He should start practicing his marksmanship skills now. Just because he isn't old enough to get his ccw permit doesn't mean he can't attend a basic shooting class to learn the proper techniques.

I would also recommend anyone who carries a gun or wants to carry a gun read In The Gravest Extreme as well as The Truth About Self Protection both books by Massad Ayoob.

Strapping on a gun is not going to solve all your problems and may cause you problems unless you take the steps to go beyond just what is required to obtain your permit.

I'm very glad your son wasn't hurt in his ordeal. How he decides to proceed in the future will say a lot about who he is and what he's all about.

Thanks for posting your story. It can be a real eye opener when violence comes knocking at your door.
