Well, it does have an effect: it increases it, via the disarmament of victims ahead of the crime. That's the only real impact of such "control" and completely counter to the supposed (publicly-stated) goals of such attempts.

If every able citizen were armed to the teeth, simply trained in the arts of self-defense, I'd bet it would cut crime by half right off the bat, just by making it tougher for any criminal to survive a negative interaction with a citizen. If the target didn't get the criminal(s), likely others within spitting distance would.

Government hacks and bureaucrats need only get the Hell out of the way and stop criminalizing citizens for daring to stand up to crime in the only way that hacks are unable to do: right then and there, resist crime forcefully, as it jumps on your head. Nobody can help you, on the instant of crime finding you. And you can't even help yourself, if the damned hacks and bureaucrats keep disarming people.

We're making good progress, what with "carry" laws going the direction they are. But there is such a tidal wave of attempts to disintegrate all the hard work to-date. The schmucks think "control" will help any victim in any way whatsoever. It's preposterous. T. Nugent has it right. It is that simple.

You'd think this would be official malfeasance and a criminal act, right there. THIS is one of the huge reasons to have transparent governance, given the huge array of ways in which bureaucrats can screw the people over, for whatever hidden agenda or crime they have in mind.
