I'm quite sure that you have been in close proximity to people who don't meet your standards. If you live in a populous area, you very likely cross paths with several every day. Do you walk around scared all the time?

Well no, they absolutely aren't, but I suspect that you meant "In my mind" rather than "To me". There are states that don't require people to participate in any training to qualify for licenses/permits. Those states don't have any more of the bad stuff than states that do require training. That's just a fact.
Not debating what is fact or not as I have not studied them enough to be able to debate them. Simply stating that people with no working knowledge of a gun that carry a gun scare me and I consider them to be just as much of a threat as a BG.

I know that this is my first post on the forum and I don't want to upset anyone, but. I have been around many LEO from many departments and I can tell you more often then not they are less handy with their firearms then most citizens who CC. I have found that those who CC shoot their firearms unlike many LEO's.

I have found this to be true as well. Many CC'rs practice relgiously with their weapons. Many cops on the other hand only practice enough to qualify when they need to. I have a friend on the swat team that lives about 4 hours away. Whenever I go to see him we always go and shoot at the police range. The swat guys guys are masters with their weapons but I have yet to see a patrol officer there that both my wife and myself couldn't shoot rings around.

Said it before... cops are people and they represent every facet of our population!

When I was a copper, I was shocked to run in to one guy that actually hated guns and only carried on duty and unfortunately, only practiced when mandated! I was an assistant range instructor and had to work with him intensely. Gotta tell ya, it spooked me big time that I might find myself with him watching my back!

I think it's safe to say though that he represents a very small segment of our police population.

I live in a shall issue state that does not require any training. I have read several articles by people who had a little training that in my mind implied that they thought they were well trained and superior to those that live in a state that does not interpret the 2nd Ammendment that way. I got my first gun when I was eight years old and was trained by my father. Then I spent 24 years in the military. I seldom go more than three days without shooting, wheather it be at some vermin or varmit, or testing a new load or practicing. I am glad that those folks got their training. I am happy they are proud of their training. I am not overly impressed though.

Not many people are mugged or raped by people legally carrying.

Perhaps you meant potential danger

The reason there isn't much difference between mandated and non-mandated training states, as far as accidental shooting and such is commitment. Those that seek training on their own are much more likely to practice what they learned after the course/courses are over. Many that are state mandated for entry level safety courses will revert to bad habits and declining skills without practice and refreshers from time to time. Many of those will still carry their pistols claiming they've been trained, having gone through an 8 hour safety course 10 years ago. That's the worst kind of dangerous.

That was a private discussion. So what if that's his personal feelings. Who are you to tell someone what to think? As long as he's doing his job well and providing a service, you would complain about his personal opinion? You're certainly intolerant to people who don't march in goose step with your point of view. I thought this was a free country.

Roger. If I was in a resturant and the waiter did not like fat people I would speak up too.

I'm retired from law enfocement and live in an area where many citizens have a CHL.

Many of the people I used to work with made me much more nervous than most of the civilians I know who CC. The civilians generally practice more, take better care of their weapons and are much more likely to go farther to avoid a situation escalating.

Granted, most of the people I know now are older, but I also sit on a civilian review board for local LE agencies and and find there is no more shortage of bad attitudes among young LEOs now than there was in "my day".
