Hmm...that's funny. I have an acquaintance who's an LEO and says he has civilian friends who are better trained with their weapons than some of the people he works with. He's into guns and trains a lot (and so do a lot of the people at his agency) but knows some people who aren't and don't do anything but the minimum to keep their qualification.

I do not think that the store owner knows about his employee’s attitude … unless he does not want to stay in business for a long time.
![]() Unfortunately I have to agree with you. My ex did not have CCW, but she owned a pocket pistol; it was a pre-owned DAO.380. She had gotten it cheap for several years ago for home protection. She kept it loaded below all clothes in a drawer. When she told me about it I asked her if she used to go to the range often, and she answered that she never had done it and that she never had fired the pistol either. Furthermore, the gun was never cleaned. According to her, all that was totally unnecessary because the gun had been unfired in the drawer during all those years, and she wanted it only for home protection. I explained to her why trying to fire that pistol should not be a very good idea, but she did not believe it. This was only the short version; the conversation did not end there at all. I do not dare to think what had happened if she had needed to use the gun to protect herself. I believe that people that think in that way should not own a gun.

Lower part of Alabama, myself and my LEO friends are all PRO Carry as long as nothing in background check to disqualify. The more "good guys" carrying the worse for the bad guys....

I read through all the replies on this post and it seems everyone is on the same page regarding the ex LEO's attitude.
The fact of the matter is that there will always be some LEOs who believe that they are the only ones on the streets who should be armed. Then again there are LEOs who are very pro-carry. I took my CHL class through a LEO and he made that fact clear to us. The LE world is just like the real world. There are those who are for it and those who are against it (concealed carry). I also agree with all of the people who made the comments about practice. There are many LEOs who shoot the bare minimum to qualify and practice. There are some guys and girls here at defensivecarry who shoot more in one outting to the range than some LEOs do in one full year. Just like in the real world, there are people in the LE world who do the bare minimum in their jobs to get paid - the "get in, don't get noticed, and get out" attitude. Anyone seen "Office Space?" The fact that many concealed carry advocates are hobbyists to shooting means they will be shooting a lot, and enjoying it for that matter. To some, shooting is just part of the job. Don't get me wrong though, there are some LEOs who go the extra mile to practice. The ex-LEO was obviously misinformed and/or ignorant, like many antis. |

This is a nasty topic.
But I agree people do need to get out and shoot more often, once a month at least no matter what the handgun caliber is (prefer there carry weapon of course) I help do the CCW courses and its freakin nasty out there, I see all kinds of wild shots and unsafe handling. People need to practice we all know that, but the majority do not. I read somewhere in another post that a man doesn't want to be sitting in the mall with his niece and some CCW holder shoots at a subject but misses and maybe misses who knows how many times. In something like that I might not know who the bad guy is and I might shoot them both because bullets are flying and I go into defense Black. |
