Great reply Glock 21, while I basically agree with a lot of what you are saying, I still want CCW holders to have at least a minimal amount of training.
If you choose to have any weapon in your home I have no objection at all to that in any degree at all, but if you are carrying in the street you have to have had some training. I don't care whether or not you know how to shoot or not. What I worry about is your lack of training and that poor inocent slob that is behind the BG when your lack of training causes you to start spraying and praying in the BG's direction. Training will give you pause to consider this as one of the 4 Basic rules. Ignorance of firearms and the damage they inflict is inexcusable if you carry. I too frequently give people training "on my nickle" just so I can impart at least some idea of what they are getting themselves into. IMO when you choose to carry you must not only know when to shoot and how but when not to shoot. That comes with familiarity and that comes with training.

The restrictions on concealed carry continue to grow. While more states allow concealed carry, the restrictions within the laws seem to grow like summer weeds.
Example: Indiana has had a concealed carry for more than 70 years. Original permit had no restrictions. Then came commercial aircraft. Then schools. Then river boat casinos. Then while hunting. Then in certain gvt bldgs. Never was there a demonstration of a problem. Just typical government undocumented, unfounded, silly, fear. Need to control might be a better description. I am old enough that I have carried on commercial aircraft, in schools, in court rooms, etc. Never have I seen or heard of any problem with a properly licensed individual in any of the above. As an instructor, instructor trainer, yes IMO it would be great if all people who OWNED guns were trained. Training IMO should not be mandated by local, state, or federal govenment.

Again, should people be trained? Yep. But are you the one who will decide what that is and will you be the one holding a gun to their head arresting them if they don't? Smug is thinking your life is worth more because you went to school. Smug is thinking that everyone else should conform to your standard or be thrown in jail. And that is what we are talking about here. You want a LAW - law is FORCE. Law is compliance at gunpoint. Law comes into play when another person has been deprived of life, limb, liberty or property. The simple act of carrying a concealed weapon fits none of those criterion. Yet some here use the argument of what some people "might" do, or what "could" happen. How about this, I think you MIGHT make a bad father, I think you should go to school and get a license, and if you don't pass MY idea of a proper test, we castrate you? Now that doesn't quite make it, does it? Look, guys, this is a social problem, not a legal one. How in the world did we make it as a nation for the first 100 years without gun permits. I mean how in the word did people keep from AD'ing weapons and mowing down their neighbors? The answer is simple, they grew up around them and their fathers taught them how to handle weapons. We don't do that anymore. I would put it to you that making the types of regulations you are touting will actually make the accident rates go up by making gun ownership a privilage rather than the norm. By making it inaccessable to the average person. By making it non-cost effective. The free market will dictate that most people just won't pay fort it. Those same people will cease to be gun owners and will eventually make up the majority of the voters. Meanwhile your permit fees and requirements will grow, eventually making gun ownership and self-defense something only the "elite" can afford. You know as well as I do that this line of "manditory training" is one step away from being required for purchase and general ownership. I can hear it now, "It's for the children." We all have knives in our homes. We leave them right out on the kitchen counter where our children can get to them. We teach those same children respect for them and that they aren't toys and go about our buisness making dinner. We have poisons, chainsaws, electricity and dogs - all potential dangerous things, but we teach the safety involved with them and that's that. But for some reason guns have been removed from those basic lessons given to children, and then I'm suddenly forced to comply with some government nanny program because other people won't take responsibility for their kids. Again, no thanks - I'll take my chances. Yes, I'll proclaim my magnificence - I'm a product of the Creator and blessed with the ability and RESPONSABILITY of my own defense, as every other human being is. My life is my own, and it is worth defending. I embrace that and I will not apologize for it. What others choose to do is not my business until they decide to make it so, and I will deal with that when it happens rather than treat them like children before hand. What you fail to see here is that I'm on YOUR side - I want you to have your rights and to be left alone, and I want the same for everyone else. The individual is what made this nation great and the individual is what needs to be preserved. |

Courteous discussion
Constructive discussion is one thing. Acrimonious comments are something else.
If you cannot control your keyboard, perhaps it is time to turn it off and go take a cold shower. Just the opinion of an old guy.
