Sorry for the large list, just trying to help.

I haven't been to gunsite in AZ, but took a course in MA.
Very much enjoyed it.
If you can afford it I would go for Gunsite, it would no doubt be lots
of fun.

Thunder Ranch would no doubt be great too, however I looked at there schedule earlier and they are booked the entire year already.

I looked at the Thunder Ranch schedule again, looks like there are a few openings later in the year I missed in that sea of FULL's.

Schedule here: Thunder Ranch® Oregon Course Schedule

I would avoid Blackwater because of the possible negative conotations associated with the name right now.

Lets look at this for a moment. Let's say you or your spouse are involved in a self defense shooting after attending the school. If a Prosecuting Attorney was playing the political angle to score votes I could just see him or her telling the press, jury and anyone that will listen that you "attended a scool designed to train paid assassins." Also, think how this will play if you are the defendant in a civil case.

It would be better, IMHO, to attend a school with a solid reputation without the "baggage". I'm sure that Blackwater has many fine things to teach, and I'm not assiciated with any school, class or teaching manifest, but I do try to look at all the possibilities.

I agree, Blackwater has been one of the premier training sites for years, but with the current media attention and possible court actions against them, I'd stay clear. I'd still love to attend their training, I think it's some of the best, but with the recent allegations, I'll pass right now. It may be more of a detriment if you need to use your training resume in a legal defensive situation.

Randy Cain of Cumberland Tactics teaches his Tactical 101 three day course at Midland during the summer. I just took the course and it is great. Highly recommend it to you. And it is well under $1,000.
