Hi Matt,
I actually prefer the Fairbairn 1/2 hip over the QK hip when time is short to respond, the distance is under 12 feet, and there's only one known assailant when the action starts. As you've mentioned, both blend seemlessly so you can start from one and move in and out of both as the situation evolves/dictates. For those who might not be aware, Matt can also get people to shoot with utter reliability using the Fairbairn/Sykes/Applegate skills in very short time periods. These skills are imperative to have in your tool box for the street. Plenty of Matt's work/training involves one handed skills. Thanks for the kind words. Stay sharp Brownie |

I feel that we need to look at the realities of one handed shooting within the correct context of the fight and train within those realities. For the most part, one handed shooting is not a marksmanship based platform of shooting, it is a combat based platform of shooting.
The Support Side Arm Inside of a fight the support side hand can be very important and it can be used in a manner that it is doing much more important things than just "supporting" your firing platform. It can be used for the following Striking Fending Blocking Parrying Using other tools (flashlight, asp) Help facilitate balance Help facilitate dynamic movement Help facilitate explosive move off of the X Help facilitate cutback or directional changes Help facilitate the tactile ability to maneuver around or through something when you are threat focused To counter balance and help stabilize your one handed shooting platform One handed skills are a must for those that want to be well rounded and versatile. Do not limit yourself to needing an important asset to just support a firing position. Distance equals time, if you have the distance and the time get two hands on the gun!
