Training and Safety

Guy shot himself today at a class.

He drew, his finger was on the trigger, the rear of the slide caught something he was wearing, the gun stopped and his hand didn't.

He put a .40cal round through the top front of his thigh and it came out the back of his leg above his knee.

Lucky for him is wasn't a hollowpoint and he didn't hit another student.

Lesson: never ever forget how dangerous handguns are when you are handling them and keep your finger off the trigger!

Wow! Always a good reminder. Follow the rules folks and don't ever become complacent with the firepower you have in your hand. It can be very dangerous.

thanks for sharing.

Now, you can't register a handgun, you can't carry a handgun, but that's because its both -- its possession is prohibited... You're not allowed to register handguns is the mechanism by which they are prohibited.

It should have been 'muscle memory' 101...
A couple thousand more draws for that guy...although he will probably remember NOW...

Stay armed...it's a finger thing...stay safe!

i have alaways worrried about other people in the classes i take.

I worry the something like this will happen but it will be me or another student.

This simply reinforces the finger off trigger theory.

once again we see that the only safety that means anything is the one between your ears...

If I'm in a class where we will be drawing from holsters with a live gun, I want to know personally that all the other students know and practice the 4 rules.

Too bad for him. Unfortunately the best training is the most realistic, which always makes it more dangerous.
