Can anyone recommend a good .380 round for carry?
I tried searching but the search feature doesn't seem to be working at the moment.
I am sorry if this has been covered before. At any rate, I have settled on a new carry weapon in .380. (no caliber wars please) I am not looking for the latest greatest whizbang stuff. I just want a high quality round that works, and isn't to expensive. CorBon? Speer Gold dot? other???? Thanks. |

These seem pretty reasonable. http://personalsecurityzone.com/cgi-...ProductID=8862
What is a "caliber war?" |

I am no fan of the .380 but a friend who carries one swears by 102-grain Golden Sabres.

I used to carry Corbon 90 grain JHPs in my Kel Tec P3AT....they sure thumped my shooting hand nice and hard....so I hope that would have translated to decent terminal ballistics out of the business end of my gun....

I've heard through a local dealer that a lot of the LEOs around here carry the Winchester Supreme T-Series in their .380s and are really impressed by the round, but I have had no personal experience with it.
One word of caution: if you're carrying a Walther PPK or something similar, try not to exceed the energy of 95 grains at 955 fps by too great a margin. Doing so can overstress the older design fairly quickly. If a newer design--go for it! Good luck and good shooting!! |

In 380, I carried ball ammo. I want the penetration ball provides to get to the vitals. Most high performance HP 380 has dismal penetration.

I've shot Corbon 90gr JHP but settled on Federal 90gr HYDRA-SHOK JHP in their "Personal Defense" line. The Federal just feeds better in my gun.
No matter what the terminal effects are if it doesn't feed and go where you aim it just isn't worth carrying. None of us like to spend the money but try several and find what works.

My vote is for the Cor-Bon powerball. Works like ball ammo and mushrooms like hollow point.
