Lead or jacketed for Glock??

Hi,
I have a Glock I have only fired jacketed rounds through as per the Glock instructions. They say because of the polygon rifling lead should not be used because it will lead up easier and faster than regular lands and grooves. Is this true and has anyone fired a lot of lead through and lived to tell the tale?? :)

Thanks,
Chuck

Not recommended! Unless you use good quality plated (copper washed) lead bullets. Even then I have some concerns over getting full obturation if bullet only sized a poor .355 perhaps!

Better to get a regular rifled barrel from one of the sources like KKM or Barstow etc.

Doubt the gun will blow up!! but - likely to have some iissues in theory.

OH BTW Chuck -

I'm not a Glock guy, but the latest issue of Guns and Ammo Handguns mag had an article comparing th G-35 to the Springfield XD Custom Pro. In the article the author said that he that he purchased a barrel for his Glock that would fire lead from Olympic arms. Sorry don't know anything about that company either

Factory bbl: Jacketed
Aftermarket: most I have seen will take lead.

The price difference for me between lead and FMJ/JHP just isn't worth trying it.

if jacketed bullets are recommended then I would just stick with jacketed, are you looking to reload? I'm not a glock fan but don't they void the warranty if you use reloads.

Yup and trust me I have seen first hand the results of using lead bullets. I sold a buddy of mine my Glock M23 years ago. I had ALWAYS run FMJ thru the gun. He stared "rolling his own" and in the middle of an IDPA competition, his gun blew up. He almost lost some fingers. He was fine thankfully, but it was close.

I avoid lead like the plague, as I am exposed to it enough at work....
Be sure if you fire lead bullets, that proper precautions are taken such as ventilation, washing hands etc....

You should only use jacketed bullets in the Glock barrel. It is my understanding that lead can build up and cause a problem (ka-boom). Also be very careful with reloads in the unsupported Glock chamber.
