I carry one spare magazine on the belt at 9 o'clock for the primary gun and two speed strips in my shirt pocket for the back up gun.
Speed strips also carry nicely in the watch pocket of most jeans. Carrying a speed strip in the front pockets with keys or change is not a good idea, you'll wind up with dented cartridge cases. I'm more inclined to draw the backup gun first, then transition to the primary (if necessary) before even considering a reload. I know that's backwards, but the backup draws a little faster than the primary. ![]() |

I know this is an old and dead topic but I think I can speak on this one.
For about 6 months I worked at a place that required me to get into gunfights on a semi-regular basis during training scenarios. Granted these weren't "real" gunfights as we were expending Simunition (you know, those fun soap rounds that make paintball look like a toddler's playthings), but sure as hell sounds and seems real. I can tell you that when the SHTF you will want as much as you can get. I would sometimes go through as many as 3 mags in less than a minute when facing off against 4-5 other people. And those were aimed shots. Whoever it was that said it was dead on that adrenaline will get you every time. When I carry, I typically carry 3 mags on me. One in the gun, one in the holster (Uncle Mikes) and another in my pocket. |

I carry 1 spare mag. Either in my weak side front pants pocket, or strong side jacket pocket.

Depends on what I'm wearing, Jeans I throw a couple in my weakside front pocket if I'm carrying my 1911. If I'm carrying my XD in my jeans just one mag
My Cargo shorts I havea pocket that can hold 2 XD mags with out rattling (with my Surefire light if I'm carrying at night.)

I do now... at least one spare magazine, sometimes two!
I read someone talking about magazine failure and then remembered one time when I discovered my magazine was no longer seated. Cured my laziness on the spot! ![]()

I carry 18+1 in the gun and a spare 17rd mag. I carry the extra mag in a Bianchi #10 IWB mag carrier at 8:00 and my Para 10mm IWB at 3:30.

Depends on how I am carrying
My preferred method of carry is a Galco SS-II shoulder harness with double mag carrier on weak side. Two 13 round mags help balance my Sig P-229.
When carrying in a Paddle (Uncle Mikes Kydex Paddle), I carry two mags in a Fobus double mag paddle. Lets me easily remove and reinstall both weapon and mags when necessary. Carrying the extra two mags also makes my belt hang more evenly when loaded on both sides. May seem like a lot of ammo but who wants to run home to reload? Also, it is a lot less weight than I used to carry when on active duty.
