I change my carry ammo once every year. I buy new ammo every year on my B-Day this way I don't forget when to do it. All other ammo is no big deal on age as long as you store it right.

several weeks ago i took 200 plus rounds of 1964 lake city 45 acp match ammo to the range. every round went bang. ammo doesn't really go bad if you store it properly.

If I was able to carry, it would no more than 6 months, as I would fire off that mag and replace it, since you need to practice you might as well use the older stuff up first.
I do carry a shotgun for bears, you must replace your ammo every season, shotgun ammo is not as robust as rifle/pistol ammo. With buckshot you will notice little white beads leaking out of the ammo, it is the packing material they put in to keep the buckshot from flopping around. |
