Water Jugs Don't Shoot Back

I wonder - has anyone shot waterjugs (with or without denim) with federal's EFMJ rounds? Results?

Better yet... I've seen EFMJ shot into ballistic gelatin...it did not do very well.

WOW!

Stellar post! Excellent photography! For the 1911 fan, this is ultimately some very useful info!

It opened fully and consistently in every perp.
Where's the pics?

Put some heavy clothing in front as an intermediate barrier and the HST, Ranger T, and Tactical will open better than Gold Dot. This has been proven time and time again. If you want a bonded bullet, go with the Federal Tactical, otherwise, go with HST or Ranget T (both in +P).

Has anyone seen a test using the Winchester RA45T out of a 3" barrel? If I do my own test, would 10 wet phone books and shooting through a layer of denim give a good representation of the actual reallife expansion? Since my Kimber is aluminum I won't be shooting +P through it, so the test would only involve 230g Ranger T and 185g Fed Hydra Shok. Mike

.45 out of a 3" barrel is generally not a good combo.

Possibly. If by "real life expansion" you mean how it will perform when shot into a human body then not necessarily. Wetpacks are not an adequate tissue simulant. If by "real life expansion" you mean what it is capable of, then maybe.

Not sure I agree. My SAI Micro 3.5" barrel results in very good expansion and penetration with the Golden Saber 230 Gr, Gold Dot 230 gr and the Hornady FPD 230 +P loads. Into soaked phone books, I've been doing these tests for years, and have a good feel for the different bullet performance.

My comparison to bodies is my hunting results. Not human, but deer and boar. My experiences over the years show that penetration in living flesh is about 2-3 times that into the phone books. So a 4-6" penetration of phone book is pretty good, IMO. The Micro can do that.

Nice test . I notice the bonded hold together well. the hyrashok I fired into water separated the jacket from the lead core.

That's okay, but it is generally true that the 2" reduction in barrel length results in .45 rounds having expansion problems.
